The Department of Local Government Finance has finally signed off on the city of Berne's 2013 operating budget, "a month late," Clerk-treasurer Gwen Maller reported at Monday evening's city council meeting.
Maller said the DLGF made "only a small cut" to the $2.4 million budget submitted by the city. The reduction was made, she said, primarily because actual Assessed Valuation (AV) figures for real estate within the corporation limits were lower than originally estimated.
In August the city prepared its 2013 budget based on an estimated $123.8 million in AV for the year. Maller said that figure ended up being only $115 million. The 2013 budget as submitted set General Fund spending at $1.7 million for the current year.
Nonetheless, Maller said she was "pleased at where we ended up" after the DLGF finished its review of the city's spending blueprint.
