Berne boys take CC county bragging rights; Norwell girls win

PONETO— South Adams earned first place in the Bi-County Conditioner at Southern Wells Tuesday night, while the Bellmont Braves finished second in the unique event.

In what is known at Hokum-Karum style, the schools use runners in pairs alternating each mile for six miles. Scores are compiled using the combined times of each school's top three pairs.
The Starfires won with a total team time of 1:38:48.6, while Bellmont finished second at 1:43:15.5, followed by Bluffton at 1:44:27.7 in third. Norwell was fourth at 1:46:04.5, then Adams Central at 1:58.24.4 and Southern Wells in sixth place with a time of 1:59:03.9.
Sawyer Miller and Bailey McIntire were the top duo in the event combining for a solid time of 31:21, while Bellmont's Thomas McNamara and Adam Garner took second in 32:31.
"Both ran excellent splits," explained BHS coach Randy Hisner. "McNamara averaged 5:19 and Garner 5:32."
The Stars used their second pair of Wyatt Miller and David Steffen to finish fourth at 33:08, while Briar Goodwin and Cole Litwiller were seventh overall at 34:19.
For Bellmont, Clayton Sheehan (5:43 ave.) and Jacob Corral (5:53) placed ninth overall as the Braves' second pair. Connor Gallogly (6:04) and Nick Garcia (5:55) were 14th overall, followed by Carson Ross (6:09) and Austin Heckert (6:27) placing 16th. Riley Stetler (6:24) and Ryan Boyle (6:19) took 18th, Quinton Swenski (6:42) and Kole Kelley (6:05) placed 19th, and Justin Gephart 6:11) and Gonzalo Garcia (6:39) finished 21st rounding out the scores for the Braves, while Kadin Gerber and Jake Hreha were 20th for the Stars at 38:29.
