Following a heated discussion during the Dec. 9 meeting regarding a proposed city ordinance requiring businesses to maintain a Swiss theme, Berne City Council reconvened Monday to discuss ways to encourage businesses to go with the flow, rather than risk losing potential growth for the city.
To begin the meeting, Berne resident Kirk Johnson addressed the council regarding his concerns of an ordinance mandating a Swiss theme for potential businesses.
“Sell Berne. Sell the Swiss heritage,” said Johnson. “Let them know who we are and why we do the things we do. Everybody wants to be a part of something. So lets sell this town on what we are.”
