Bellmont netters edge Jets, 3-2

    In a hotly contested county match Tuesday, the Bellmont varsity boys tennis team beat Adams Central 3-2 to remain unbeaten at 5-0.         Senior Payton Selking lost to Nathan Barger 1-6, 4-6 at number one singles.  This was only Selking’s second lost this year including invitationals dropping his record is 6-2.  
    Phil Bauman, now 7-1, beat Conner Lengerich 6-1, 6-2 while Nick Faurote, who just recently won a spot on varsity, lost to Jacob Weil 2-6, 2-6. 
    The match came down to the doubles matches in which Bellmont won both in three tough sets each.     
    Matt Stidam and Garrett McCord beat Derek Roe and Keaton Fiechter 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.  In doubles play, Stidam’s record so far is 6-1 while McCord is is 2-0.  They held on to a break in the third set to close out the match on Stidam’s serve.  Both teams served very well and it came down to which team would return the best. 
    In the number two doubles match, Kyle Smith and Dalton Mann beat Isaac Luginbill and Jon Weil 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.  Smith and Mann improved their record to 4-1.  The Bellmont team came back from a deficit of 2-5 in the third set.  With all eyes on them and the match on the line, Smith and Mann dug in and won five straight games in a  remarkable comeback. 
 “I am so proud of how both doubles teams competed under pressure tonight.  Smith and Mann stayed calm and fought for each point.  This is one of the best comebacks I have ever experienced.  The pressure was all around them but they stayed under control,” noted Bellmont coach Joe Selking, adding   “it is great to compete against such a well coached team.  Tonight went Bellmont’s way, but this was a very close match.”
    In reserve action Bellmont also remained unbeaten as they tied with AC 5-5.  Bellmont’s reserve record is now 4-1-0.  At number one singles, Evan Selking lost to Peirce Harris 3-8.  Mason Selking suffered his first lost of the year losing to Ben Kaehr 1-8 and Nick Huffine lost a tight match in a tie breaker to Zach Fiechter.  Robbie Ehlerding beat AC’s Jarred Lehman 8-4.  Morgan Werling lost to AC’s Jon Swales 5-8.  The unbeaten Bellmont doubles team of David Baker and Austin Mann extend their winning streak to six by beating AC’s Jacob Bergdall and Cody Walburn 8-6.  The other unbeaten team of Chris Faurote and Drake Reidenback of Bellmont beat Luke Marbach and Eric Ripley 8-4.  Logan Baker and Isaac Corrall lost to AC’s Nate Timmons and Lane Harrison 2-8 while Evan Selking and Mason Selking teamed up to beat AC’s Andy Oliver and Blake Lewis 6-0.  David Baker and Logan Baker beat AC’s Noah Quinones and Cody Emenhiser 6-0.
    The Bellmont varsity remains unbeaten at 5-0, while the Adams Central varsity moved to 5-3. The Bellmont reserve also remains unbeaten at 4-1-0 and the AC reserve team is 4-1-1.
