The coveted top position, however, went to Bellmont's Bailey Beery who had no problems in going on cruise control to win by 2:11 over Fremont's Makenna Cade (18:49 to 21:00).
In the boys' competition, Bellmont battled Northrop and Blackhawk Christian for team title honors but fell just short finishing third only seven points out of first place.
Four of Cade's teammates followed her across the finish line before Northrop placed runners in seventh and eighth. A pack of Bellmont runners solidified their placement in the invitational with Cadi Faurote placing ninth in 21:50, Bailey Christlieb was tenth at 21:53, Amberly Gutierrez was 11th in 21:56, and Ally Norby placed 12th with a time of 22:02.
Bellmont's Emily Gunsett recovered sufficiently enough from an injury suffered in a soccer match last week to run and was the sixth BHS harrier at 22:35 which was good for 14th place. Other Bellmont runners included Grace Fisher, 17th in 23:06, Marie Fisher, 28th in 25:34, Rebekah Phifer, 30th in 25:50, and Claudia Hebble, 40th at 32:42 (a personal best time this year for Hebble).
