Beer named chief deputy

January 8, 2013

At the weekly commissioner's meeting on Monday, Sheriff Shane Rekeweg announced that he has appointed a new chief deputy, Eric Beer.
Eric Meyer, who had been serving as chief deputy, resigned the position at the end of December, as his wife had been transferred to the Orlando, Florida, area in June 2012 and Meyer joined her.
Chief Deputy Beer was in the Navy for nine years prior to his law enforcement career, which began over 12 years ago. He has served as a patrolman for the Berne Police Department and as a deputy sergeant for the Adams County Sheriff's Department.
Beer has extensive training and experience in drug investigations, and has been trained by the federal government, as well as other nationally known agencies.
Rekeweg said based on Beer's "training, experience, and the way he conducts himself with his peers, he was clearly the best choice."
