Barbara A. (Lewton) Haynes, 75, of Auburn, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012, at DeKalb Health in Auburn.
She was born in Decatur on September 14, 1937, to the late Richard D. and Frieda T. (Amstutz) Lewton.
Barbara married Richard L. Haynes on Aug. 10, 1958, at the Fifth Street United Methodist Church in Decatur; he passed away June 3, 1980.
She was a graduate of Monmouth High School, where she was class valedictorian. After graduating from high school, she went to work in the Adams County Clerk’s office and later retired from the DeKalb County Clerk’s office.
Barbara was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren, and currently attended the Auburn First United Methodist Church. She and her husband served as DeKalb County Rural Youth Leaders and Youth Leaders at Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren, the Extension Homemaker Club, and sewing club, but her true passion in life was her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Among survivors are four children, Timothy E. (Mandy) Haynes of Auburn; G. David (Debra) Haynes of Garrett; Stephanie J. (Brian) Haynes-Clifford of Waterloo; and Joel R. (Melanie Burlage-Haynes) Haynes of Avilla; honorary family member, Ed Placencia; nine grandchildren, Tyler and Rachel Haynes, Ryan, Danielle, and John Haynes, McKenna and Colton Clifford, and Madeline and Jackson Haynes; four sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Lehman of Ohio City, Ohio, Mary Lou (Larry Sr.) Brunner of Decatur, Kathleen (Rex) Stickler of Decatur, and Geraldine (Gerald) Sudduth of Decatur; a brother, Richard C. (Barbara) Lewton of Topeka; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Haynes of Auburn and James (Chloe) Haynes of Garrett; and sister-in-law, Mary (Dave) Wolf of Garrett.
She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, G. Heber Haynes, Ida May (Yarde) Haynes, and Nellie (Deveny) Haynes; two brothers-in-law, Wilbur Haynes and John Haynes; three sisters-in-law, Anna Ruth Haynes, Helen Haynes, and Joy Haynes; and cousin Marjorie Keeler (Charles).
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, at Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren, 2939 C. R. 15, Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Duane Grady and Don Shankster will be officiating.
Burial will be in Christian Union Cemetery in rural Garrett.
Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice of Fort Wayne or Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren.
