Officials of First Bank of Berne (FBB) have announced that the bank will sponsor a project from November 1-20 called the Blue Bag Food Drive to collect and deliver food to food banks in five area cities in which FBB has offices: Berne, Decatur, Bluffton, Portland, and Van Wert, Ohio.
The bank is seeking donations of such nonperishable products as canned meats, canned vegetables, canned soup, cereal, peanut butter, canned fruit, canned tomato products, meal mixes, instant potatoes, and condiments (such as ketchup, mustard, etc.).
Organizers said they also are looking for gifts of paper products, toothpaste, and shampoo.
Those who give food or other items will receive a reusable blue carrying bag.
The donated items will be on display in the lobbies of the bank sites during the food drive.
Bank officials issued a statement saying, "First Bank of Berne's Blue Bag Food Drive is an effort to encourage the involvement of all area citizens to pull together and support our local food banks as well as those in need. Any donation, large or small, would be very much appreciated, as local food banks continue to meet the needs of so many people in our communities."
