Services are pending at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home for Duane (Dean) Ingmire, 59, a 16-year reserve officer and a 14-year dispatcher with the Decatur Police Department who died Tuesday morning in a fire inside his home in Roe Acres, north of Monmouth.
Among Ingmire's survivors are two sons.
It is believed that smoke inhalation was the cause of death, although that has yet to be determined by the coroner.
The Decatur Fire Department and State Fire Marshall's office is investigating, attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
The home at 217 W. Roeville Road was equipped with smoke detectors, officials said.
It is speculated that the fire was going on inside the home for two, maybe three or more hours before smoke began escaping. A neighbor saw the smoke and called 911, with city firefighters dispatched at 8:36 a.m.
Frefighters were able to suppress the fire and upon entering the structure, discovered the body in the living room.
Several fire departments assisted at the scene.
