Arleen Sheffield

    Arleen Sheffield, 88, of Lima, Ohio, died in her home at 1:21 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
    She was born on May 28, 1922, in Swanton, Ohio, to Harlan and Anna Spring Coon and they preceded her in death.
    On November 15, 1941, she married Robert A. Sheffield of Lima and he passed away on November 27, 1978.
    She was a store manager for Lawson Milk Company for many years, retiring in 1984. Previous to that, she worked in the shoe department at Gregg's Department Store.
    Upon retirement, Arleen volunteered with the Literacy Council, teaching adults to read, and also volunteered at St. Rose School and for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
    She is survived by five children, Mrs. Ronald (Diane) Sexton of Pasadena, California; T.J. and David Sheffield of Lima; and Julia Sheffield and Mrs. Tom (Nora) Niblick of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and three stepgrandchildren.
    Preceding her in death were two sons, Robert A. Sheffield Jr. and William G. Sheffield; one grandson, Jeremy Kruse; and one stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Niblick.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011, in St. Rose Catholic Church at Lima, with Father J. Norbert Howe as the celebrant.
    Family and friends may call at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, 506 N. Cable Rd. in Lima, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A rosary service will be held there at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
    In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to St. Rita's Hospice, 770 W. North St., Lima, Ohio, 45801.
