Ann (Horner) Kahlert, 81, Berne, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 25, 2013.
She was born to the late Klemens and Katharina (Flink) Horner on Nov. 11, 1931, in Katharinental, Ukraine. Before her marriage in 1959 to Josef N. Kahlert, she held a position in Stuttgart, Germany. After arriving in the United States on Sept. 25, 1955, she was the assistant koechin at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismark, N.D.
Ann was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. She loved needlework and created hundreds of fine doilies. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Among survivors are her husband, Josef of Berne; two daughters, JoAnn E. (Walter) Comment of Decatur and Victoria D. (Rodger) Reagan of Bluffton; two sons Michael J. (Rhonda) Kahlert of Decatur and Paul (Judell) Kahlert of Berne; a sister, Victoria Hopfner of Calgary, Canada.; five grandchildren, Nathan Louis Comment, Benjamin Josef Kahlert, Elizabeth Ann Comment, Ashley Nicole (Quenton) Benya and Jennifer Lynn Kahlert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Emilie Jahner, Pauline Schwenk and Magda Behringer.
Honoring their wishes there will be no visitation and a private service for immediate family will be held. Burial will be at Ray Cemetery in Monroe.
Preferred memorials are to the Salvation Army or Family LifeCare in Berne.
