Animals display for 175th
Mounted animals, birds, and fish, plus animal pelts, will be part of the pageantry as the City of Decatur celebrates its 175th anniversary on August 18-28.
The free display of mounted creatures will be held in Riverside Center on Saturday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with setup time the day before, from 3-6 p.m.
Local taxidermist Dick Beard will show off an elk he mounted that stands nine feet tall (counting its antlers), plus an antelope, a bobcat, a mule deer, and a white-tailed deer.
Other creatures expected to be shown are a 350-pound Russian boar (a male pig), an adult turkey posed in full strut, various deer, etc.
In addition, area hunters will be invited to bring their trophy deer to Riverside Center to have their antlers scored by a licensed scoring director. Hunters are urged to pre-register. For more information, call Beard, (260) 623-2233, or contact him at email@example.com
There is no cost to participate, but entrants must fill out a brief entry form.
Space at Riverside Center will be limited.
