The new baseball scoreboard now erected at Bellmont High School's baseball field cost some $15,000 and is several times larger than the one it replaced, which was at least 20 years old.
BHS officials thanked Adams Memorial Hospital, especially its former executive director, Marvin Baird, and First Bank of Berne for providing the money for the project. AMH gave $10,000 and FBB donated $5,000.
Bellmont Athletic Director Dale Manis said Baird was the catalyst behind the project. He noted that four other local businesses were involved: Bunge North America, which provided steel; Universal Metalcraft; Fuhrman Electric; and Hitchcock Concrete.
In addition, according to Manis, Jim Brune of rural Decatur, a professional designer in Fort Wayne, did the graphic designs on the scoreboard.
