Alvin T. "Ollie" Witte, 81, of Decatur, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at his residence.
Alvin was born on Wednesday, March 2, 1932, in Adams County to the late Wilhelm E. and Anna (Weber) Witte.
He married Shirley M. Schaper on May 29, 1960, in Zion Lutheran Church, Bull Rapids, in Woodburn, Ind; she survives in Decatur.
Alvin served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, where he held many different offices. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
Alvin retired from Kmart Distribution Center in Fort Wayne after 33 years of service. He was also a lifelong dairy and grain farmer in the Preble Township area.
Among survivors are his daughter, Wava (Christopher) Lichtle of Decatur; son, Mark (Dian) Witte of Decatur; brother, Gerhard L. Witte of Decatur; five sisters, Marie Bradtmueller of Hoagland, Dorothy (Raymond) Schaper of Woodburn, Laura (Norbert) Merkle of Ohio City, Ohio, Lorena (Marvin) Hockemeyer of Harlan, Ky., and Lavera (Duane) Linker of New Haven; and seven grandchildren, Marc (Angie) Lichtle, Zachary Lichtle, Alex (Ashley) Lichtle, Emma Lichtle, Ethan Lichtle, Jared Witte, and Heath Witte; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy Lichtle, Mae Lichtle, and Hannah Lichtle.
Alvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Witte and Wilhelm R. "Sammy" Witte; a sister-in-law, June Witte; and brother-in-law, Wilbert Bradtmueller.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Rev. Daniel Dahling officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military graveside services by American Legion Post 43 of Decatur.
Preferred memorials are to the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, Building Fund or Family LifeCare of Berne.
