The ACAC All-Conference football teams were released today with three-peat ACAC champion Leo Lions leading the way with six members on the first team. The Starfires of South Adams had five members on the first team, while Garrett and Heritage each had four. Adams Central, Bluffton, and Woodlan added two from their squads.
Once again the ACAC proves to be one of the most competitive football conferences in the area as four of the seven teams played in the sectional championship game (SA, AC, Leo, and Garrett) with the Flying Jets and Leo moving on as sectional champions. The Leo Lions made a run into the playoffs ending the season at semi-state, but still as regional champions, while the Jets fell short to Sheridan in the regional championship. The Starfires also ended their historic 10-2 season against the Sheridan Blackhawks, but in the sectional final game at Star Field.
For the Jets, Spencer Sharp and Zeke Schultz, both seniors, were the lone members representing Monroe on the ACAC squad with Sharp at running back and Schultz at linebacker. South Adams puts four seniors and a junior on the squad including quarterback Dustin Wanner, linebacker Cole Farlow, offensive lineman Joel Schmidt, strong safety Justin Wygant, and junior Sam Dellinger at defensive tackle.
Garrett's Brayden Moreau and Leo's Ryan Leiter were the other two quarterbacks selected on the first team.
On the second team All-ACAC, each team had three members to represent their schools. For AC, seniors Warren Burkhart, a linebacker, and Troy Tonner, a defensive tackle/offensive guard, were named as well as junior Ben Pfister who played defensive end and offensive guard for the Jets.
For the Starfires, seniors Marcus Rich, a running back, and Drew Taylor, an offensive lineman, were added to the second team as well as junior Blake Fox who also played offensive line.
Heritage's Conner Sheehan and Bluffton's Ryan McCarthy were two more QBs named to the all-conference squads leaving only Woodlan and AC without a quarterback to represent their squads on the conference list.
A few conference "snubs" of note who maybe should have received a second look were South Adams' senior work horse Zach Morgan who was the second leading rusher behind Wanner, and AC's Dalton Combs who led the Jets at the QB position into the regionals.
