AC okays co-teaching plan

December 17, 2012

Adams Central Elementary School is set to try co-teaching with its second grade class taught by Carrie Aschliman beginning with the second semester of the 2012-13 school year.
Elementary school Principal Terri Laurent told the Adams Central Board of Education Tuesday that after trying for the past few years to adopt a five-year-old girl, Aschliman received a last-minute phone call that everything was finally in order and ready to go.
Aschliman and her husband flew to India to bring home their new daughter, who will join the couple's toddler son, born the last of November, and anticipate returning shortly.
After she returns, Aschliman has requested to work half-days, teaching reading and math in the morning, with Jacob Barse teaching the afternoon classes.
Barse, who has been working in Aschliman's room as a Title 1 teacher, also has a teaching certificate and is willing to co-teach with Aschliman.
"I think it's a great fit," said Laurent. "He has a great rapport with the kids and a close working relationship with Carrie. It's just a good fit."
The board approved the motion, 5-0, with members Steve Bailey and John Fox absent, and commended Laurent on working to help parents and her willingness to try something new at the school
