PORTLAND — Bellmont avoided a letdown from Wednesday's emotional team regional victory, stamping eight semistate tickets with three champs, while South Adams had two champs with seven qualifiers, and Adams Central churned up a title and also shoved seven through Saturday at the Jay County Individual Regional Wrestling Tournament.
In a battle of returning regional champs, South Adams's Todd Batt countered the aggressive tactics of AC's Derek Roe, earning a 5-1 victory at 132 pounds for that crown. Frosh Sawyer Miller rolled on for the Stars with the victory at 106 pounds. The Jets' champ was senior Chantz Luginbill, who this week dominated Union City's Kyle Walters in the 160-pound title match.
The three champs for the Braves were all first-timers: Brooks Faurote at 145, Brad Busse at 182 and Ben Baker at 195 pounds. Taking seconds were Bobby Keuneke at 120 and Dewey Melcher at 152. Isaac Birch was third at 220, while seniors Jon Poling  at 113 and Blake Adams at 126 both took fourths for BHS.
"My biggest concern today was coming in flat," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote, whose Braves came from way back twice on Wednesday to claim a 15th Team State Wrestling finals berth. Thursday's practice was a bust as the Braves were physically and mentally drained.
The 22-member Adams County contingent will compete at the Fort Wayne Snider Semistate, starting at 9 a.m. this Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum. Top four regional finishers from Goshen, Peru and Carroll, and Jay County will compete.
