The St. Marys River was expected to crest at 18.8 feet in Decatur late this morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The city received an inch of snow in the past 24 hours, boosting the river a foot and a half to 18.7 feet at 7 a.m. today, local weather station officials said.
The river's flood stage is 17 feet, but it causes no significant flooding problems until surpassing 20 feet.
The weather bureau said there is a slight chance for rain and/or snow here after 1 p.m. today and tonight, but dry conditions are expected at least through Thursday.
