BERNE— The South Adams Starfires came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and gave fans all the action they wanted and more, but were ousted by 1A power Blackhawk Christian in four very close games, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23, 30-28.
The first set saw the Starfires pounce on the opposing Braves, who were without their head coach Lindsey Roth, who gave birth to her first child on Sunday. A kill from sophomore Caralie Farlow gave the Starfires an early 4-1 lead and had the opposing Braves looking flustered.
Tonight the Braves put their 3-0 record on the line when they welcome cross-county rival Norwell to town for their home opener at Worthman Stadium. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kick-off and the DDD pregame show is set to start around 6:45 p.m.

The soccer Squaws earned a 4-0 victory over non-conference Blackhawk Christian on Thursday night using a big home crowd to support the win.
"It was nice to see a great crowd," noted BHS coach Steve Lee. "The boys and girls soccer games are normally scheduled on the same nights alternating home and away but this night was one of the rare occasions when the boys did not have an away game. The crowd was electrifying with chants and Vuvuzelas (soccer horns). I really appreciated the team support."
BERNE— In what could be a preview of the sectional finals depending on how the draw turns out, Adams Central came away with a tight 3-2 victory over South Adams on the road Tuesday night.
South Adams (7-3), earned points at one and two singles but were felled in both doubles matches and three singles falling just short against their county and ACAC rivals who improved to 6-1 on the year.
Tonight the Squaws welcome non-conference opponent North Side to the Teepee on the volleyball court. The match tonight is slated for a 6 p.m. junior varsity start. The webcast will begin approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the reserve game (~7:10 p.m.).
