"This was something else. I don't know what to say," said Bellmont's standout runningback Cody Walters minutes after the Braves won just their second sectional football championship ever, 21-20 in overtime at Western High School Friday night.
"The whole game was hard-hitting, but we never stopped, never gave in, and we got it done," said determined senior linebacker Dewey Melcher.

Without solid line play on both sides of the ball, football teams seldom are successful.
In Bellmont's outstanding 22-7 sectional win over Yorktown last Friday, Ben, as usual, played on both offense and defense.
Offensively, Baker and Co. opened up holes that allowed BHS backs to gain 235 rushing yards while on defense, Baker was hounding the Tigers all night with seven and a half tackles, three and a half of which were tackles for loss of yardage. He also had one and a half sacks.

So what's different? Well those 19 juniors from last season's turnaround effort are now seasoned seniors salivating for redemption in the finals of sectionals.

Braves’ sectional run sparks player reactions

November 1, 2011

The Braves were definitely prepared for Yorktown's strong offensive schemes, while the Tigers were seemed puzzled by some of the new wrinkles put in by head coach Larry Getts and his staff, and executed perfectly by a fired-up Bellmont squad. The result was a 22-7 BHS win over the favored Tigers, who had knocked off second-ranked Eastbrook in the first round of the tourney.
