‘Heavy’ weight shift will likely translate into a heap of forfeits

November 29, 2011

How's the new weight class switch, adding a heavier weight class for 2011-12 while taking out a middle class, working out after just one week of wrestling?
Well, in Saturday's Super Dual at Yorktown, Bellmont senior Isaac Birch, in the new 220-pound class, received three forfeits. South Adams went 5-0 at Homestead, but had to forfeit the 195-pound class in every meet. There were other forfeits at both sites in various meets at 182 and heavyweight.

November 28, 2011

Bellmont coach John Baker picked up the first win of his career in front of a home crowd at the Teepee on Saturday night as his Braves handled the Woodlan Warriors, 58-44.
The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 start at the beginning of the first quarter, but looked a bit shaky the rest of the frame as they came back to the bench down 12-11 after one.
Coach Baker would have none of it. "This is not Bellmont basketball!" he hollered in the huddle, and his players got the message.

Stars win over UC in Brown’s debut

November 25, 2011

The score was 23-34 in favor of UC at the halftime break and it looked like the Indian faithful would get their revenge, but first-year SA coach Andy Brown put something in the water during his pep speech and the Berne boys came out swinging in the second half.
