South Side ace too much for Bellmont

    FT. WAYNE— The Braves ran into one of the best pitchers they will see all season against the South Side Archers and were blanked, 8-0 on Thursday night.
    Will Coursen-Carr, an IU-bound senior hurler, set down fifteen Braves en route to a complete game shutout of Bellmont.
    "Bellmont has hit us better than a lot of teams will this season," stated Matt Harmon, coach at South Side.

Bellmont gets 37 personal bests

    CELINA—An impressive showing by Bellmont track teams in a triangular meet Thursday night didn't result in wins but the Squaws shattered the school record book with four new standards while the Braves posted 37 season best efforts.

Lady Jets score late, stun Squaws

    Bellmont and Adams Central did battle on the softball field at the Teepee on Monday night with the Jets coming away with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun the Squaws, 6-4.
    AC improves to 2-0 on the come from behind win against a quality Squaws team. Lindsey McDougall was a critical part of the win with a  two-RBI single with one out in the seventh.
    "McDougall's hit was the key hit in the victory," coach Cary Blake stated.

Bellmont thumps Blackford

    Bellmont hosted the Blackford Bruins last night at the Teepee and came away with a convincing 12-4 win to improve their record to 4-1 on the season.
    Senior Matt Stidam received the ball for Bellmont and went six innings allowing only two hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts.

Coaches vs. Cancer Classic results

    Short of adding a fourth team (which every coach mentioned post-game), the Adams County Coaches vs. Cancer Classic was a great event and fit its description perfectly: classic.
    Game one: Adams Central vs. Bellmont
    Every time that AC would put up some runs on the board, coach Ben Fawbush and his Braves would respond with an answer. The final result was a thrilling 10-7 win over the Jets that started off a trio of baseball games that would not disappoint as the day went on.

Mays league teams named

     The Decatur Baseball Association's field cleanup date has been switched from this week to Saturday, April 14, at 8 a.m., it was noted by league president Jim Hopkins. The various league slate will be out in a few days.
    Official opening Day for Decatur Baseball will be Saturday, May 5. Team pictures will be taken that day.

AC wins tri-meet despite Squaws taking 11 events

    The Bellmont girls track team scored first place finishes in 11 of the 16 events Thursday night at Bob Worthman Stadium but saw victory elude them  by seven points as Jay County captured a triangular meet with 75 points while the Squaws had 68 and Adams Central was third with 21.
    "It's hard to believe we won that many events but lost the meet," concluded BHS coach Carl Risch, adding that Jay County won the meet with its depth.

Jets outran at Eastbrook

    The Adams Central track squads traveled to Eastbrook High School to take on the Panthers and came up short on both the girls' and boys' scores.
    The girls competition was closer than the guys with AC falling, 73-53, while the boys fell, 101-31.

Starfires blank Winchester

    BERNE— The Stars played a pair of games that could not be more starkly different the last two days to start off their 2012 baseball campaign in a loss to the Norwell Knights, 10-0 in six innings in their opener, and a win at home against the Winchester Golden Falcons, 9-0.
    In last night's contest against Winchester, the Stars scored early and often, putting up two in the first and three in the second to put them up 5-0 heading into the top of the third.
