The Bellmont girls track team scored first place finishes in 11 of the 16 events Thursday night at Bob Worthman Stadium but saw victory elude them by seven points as Jay County captured a triangular meet with 75 points while the Squaws had 68 and Adams Central was third with 21.
"It's hard to believe we won that many events but lost the meet," concluded BHS coach Carl Risch, adding that Jay County won the meet with its depth.
The Adams Central track squads traveled to Eastbrook High School to take on the Panthers and came up short on both the girls' and boys' scores.
The girls competition was closer than the guys with AC falling, 73-53, while the boys fell, 101-31.
BERNE— The Stars played a pair of games that could not be more starkly different the last two days to start off their 2012 baseball campaign in a loss to the Norwell Knights, 10-0 in six innings in their opener, and a win at home against the Winchester Golden Falcons, 9-0.
In last night's contest against Winchester, the Stars scored early and often, putting up two in the first and three in the second to put them up 5-0 heading into the top of the third.
With the tournament in the books, here is a list of the top 50 brackets for 2012. Congratulations to the top five who will receive a free large pizza from Pizza Hut (winners designated with an "*"). The tie-breaker was determined by the most points from play-in games and then final score guessed in the championship game.

Kentucky and Kansas will collide for a second time this year. With the National Championship looming tomorrow night, this is a list of the top brackets left in the Beat the Pros contest. There were a number of brackets with 63 points so a total of 57 people round out the list of bracket hopefuls.
Remember, 10 points are awarded for guessing Monday’s winner correctly so it’s still wide open. For those brackets that can no longer make points, an “F” for final will be listed after their name.
On Saturday, April 7, Bellmont High School will be hosting the county's first annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic baseball games.
The games will include the Braves, Adams Central, and the Starfires of South Adams in a three-game format throughout the day. Each school will wear special t-shirts with their respective school colors and feature a large pink school logo on the front. All three teams will also be wearing pink and white wristbands and pink shoelaces. The t-shirts are designed by Minds Eye Graphics.
The Beat the Pros bracket challenge is nearing its completion with the Final Four now in place. Saturday, March 31 marks the date for the final two games before the National Championship on Monday, April 2.
After all eight games in the Sweet 16 the standings have some familiar faces, but it’s still anyone’s race with some new brackets coming forward in the contest. Stay tuned for updates after the Elite 8 this weekend.
