Stars move past Jets in sectional

May 24, 2012

FORT WAYNE— A year removed from Adams Central's back-to-back sectional titles, the Jets made an early exit from the tournament last night at the hands of the South Adams Starfires, 8-5.
The Jets were the team favored to win the sectional this season but perhaps those who assumed that should have looked at this season's resume where the Stars have had AC's number two times before last night and picked up right where they left off.

Lady Jets win first sectional title

May 24, 2012

BUTLER—A day after taking out their Adams County foe, the Lady Jets topped that feat with an even greater one: winning their first sectional title ever.
It took extra innings to do, but the Jets managed to squeak by a talented Bishop Luers team in eight innings, 3-2, after a Lindsey McDougall RBI single ended the game in walk-off fashion for AC.

Lady Jets top Stars; make sectional finals

May 23, 2012

BUTLER— South Adams had hoped that the third time would be the charm on Tuesday night at Eastside as they played the Lady Jets for a third time this season but fell after a fifth inning meltdown, 7-2.
Perhaps a better phrase for SA would be, "bad things come in threes."
AC got the best of the Lady Stars in a 5-4 contest early in the season and then during ACAC play, the Jets unloaded in a similar fashion knocking off SA, 7-1 earlier in May.

Squaws send four to state track

May 23, 2012

FORT WAYNE—The Bellmont Squaws advanced individuals in four different events to the IHSAA state finals with sparkling efforts Tuesday night at the girls regional track meet at Northrop High School.
The Squaws finished tenth overall as a team out of approximately 40 teams represented at the regional scoring 29 points, an accomplished that tickled coach Carl Risch pink.

Jets and Stars to collide after sectional wins

May 22, 2012

BUTLER, IN—Both the Lady Starfires and Lady Jets found ways to advance to tonight's sectional semi-final with wins against their opponents in the opener on Monday night to earn the right to play each other for a spot in the championship.
Adams Central had the closer of the two contests in game one of the Eastside-hosted sectional playing an upstart Churubusco Lady Eagles team and pulling out a gritty, 2-1 decision thanks to two runs in the fourth inning.

Pairings for the girls track regional set for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Northrop's Spuller Stadium in Fort Wayne have the Bellmont Squaws with a pair of second place seeds while three more individuals enter the competition with a fourth place ranking.

Braves win invitational

May 21, 2012

The Braves played the rude hosts to the Concordia Cadets and the Munster Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in the Bellmont Invitational.
Both games ended with the Braves on top in extremely tight contests starting with the win against the Cadets in game one, 7-6, and followed by the gutsy win against the Mustangs, 5-4.

Lady Jets earn third tennis sectional crown

May 18, 2012

KINGSLAND— Adams Central fought through the odds on Wednesday and Thursday to make it to their sixth sectional championship in as many years and on Friday night, the Lady Jets earned their second title in that run, only their third in school history with a 3-2 win over Huntington North.
"We expect to be in the championship each year," AC coach Mike Hower noted after the match. "We don't always win, but we expect to get there. Eventually you have to win a few and we finally did it."

Braves beat on North Side, 14-5

May 17, 2012

FORT WAYNE— A day removed from a stunning 1-0 upset from East Noble, the Braves vented their frustrations on the lowly North Side Redskins in a 14-5 rout on Wednesday night during a non-conference battle.
The loss to East Noble put a damper on the Braves' NHC hopes, but Bellmont is not faltering as their main goal has always been a sectional title and beyond. The win against North Side was just another stepping stone for the heavy hitters in the Braves' lineup who are now hungry for playoff baseball.
