BERNE—From the opening tip until the final horn, Adams Central left no doubt that their regular season opening win against Churubusco was no fluke.
The Jets (13-7) took care of business in the opening round of sectional play at South Adams Tuesday night earning a convincing 54-33 win over the Eagles (4-19) to advance to Friday night's semi-final match-up with title favorite Bishop Luers.
Adams Central had won with a similar score, 51-34, in the opener.
The Allen County Athletic Conference released their list of all-conference selections from the 2012-13 girls basketball season.
It was a four-team race atop the standings this season with Garrett and Leo sharing the ACAC title during the regular season at 6-1 apiece including tournament play. Southern Wells and Woodlan shared third place honors with a 5-2 mark, while Heritage played to a 3-4 record, Adams Central finished at 2-5, South Adams went 1-6, and Bluffton sat in the basement with an 0-7 mark.
MONROE—In the fourth installment of the Lakewood Park Christian/Adams Central rivalry and senior night for the Jets at the Hangar, it was the Panthers' Wes Davidson and Blake Mann who stole the show tallying 43 of LPC's 80 points in a rout of the Jets, 80-47.
Davidson and Mann did most of their work on the glass tallying 15 rebounds apiece (30 of the team's 44 boards) in Friday night's non-conference contest. Adams Central had only 17 rebounds in the game.
Lance Vergara's 13 points was not enough to earn a much-needed win at home on senior night against an athletic Bishop Dwenger squad who topped the Braves in a 55-46 decision.
DOHA, QATAR—It was a case of déjà vu in slightly easier circumstances for Jimmy Shane and his 5 Graham Trucking team, who raced to victory in the 2013 Oryx Cup UIM World Championship final in Doha Bay on Tuesday afternoon.
Graham Trucking, owned by Decatur native Ted Porter, has won four of the last five Qatar race championships.
INDIANAPOLIS — Sawyer Miller lost three matches this season, but he avenged two of them last weekend at the 75th IHSAA State Wrestling Finals, claiming the first-ever third place for South Adams while becoming the first Starfires wrestler to earn a pair of state medals.
Senior SA wrestler Lane Moser couldn't add to his Friday victory, but took eighth place for the Starfires in a very competitive 120-pound division.

PORTLAND – Adams Central, Bellmont and South Adams’ boys’ swimming teams all advanced swimmers to the sectional finals at the Jay County Sectional on Thursday.
South Adams stands to gain significant points with two swimmers in the finals of two races – Jesse Sutton and Shad Swygart in the 100 backstroke, and Cory Sank and Chris Inniger in the 500 freestyle.
