Squaws' fast start not enough against E. Noble

    The Bellmont girls' basketball team started out Friday's home game against East Noble looking like it was on its way to its second victory of the season.
    Bellmont began on an 8-0 run in the first quarter with four different scorers finding the basket.
    "Everybody was pretty pumped up and shots were falling for us," Bellmont coach Andy Heim said. "Everybody was excited to be out there."

Jets' frigid shooting cuprit in loss to Canterbury

    MONROE—The lid on the rim was securely sealed on the Adams Central side of the gym Friday night as the Jets shot 3-26 from beyond the arc in a 55-46 loss to the Canterbury Cavaliers.
    All three triples for the Jets came in the second half as AC went a staggering 0-12 in the first half in just their second loss of the season.
    Defensively, Adams Central held the Cavaliers to below their season average but none of that matters if the Jets score less according to the Jets' coach Aaron McClure.

Jets not phased by Starfire lineup changes

    BERNE—SA coach Eric Myers knew his team would be thin at spots against the number one ranked Jets in class A.
    In a last ditch effort to steal some points and ward off some Jet opportunities, the Starfires made a few lineup changes but after a few key AC pins, the Starfires ended up losing a 46-23 decision at the hands of their county rivals in the Stardome on Thursday night.

Braves' late push tops Bulldogs, 40-27

    NEW HAVEN—Bellmont is still figuring out how to win during this young wrestling season.
    On the road Tuesday night, the Braves took down the Bulldogs in an NHC battle but not by the dominant score fans are accustomed to seeing. Coach Brent Faurote's green squad earned a 40-27 victory over New Haven.

Stars take 2nd at Haworth Invitational

    BERNE — South Adams went 4-1 Saturday in the annual Spencer Haworth Memorial Wrestling Invitational, losing only to eventual champion of the day, Jay County, 43-31.
    "We needed a couple of guys to come through, either not get pinned or win a match that they weren't supposed to and it just didn't happen," stated SA mat coach Eric Myers, after his Starfires improved to 5-1 on the season.

Braves go 5-0 at New Castle

    NEW CASTLE—Bellmont made their presence felt over the weekend as the Braves' wrestlers cashed in on a 5-0 domination of the field at New Castle High School's Invitational.
    The most notable win of the day on Saturday for coach Brent Faurote and his young Braves came against Pendleton Heights topping the Arabians 39-33.

Height boosts Jets past Raiders, 60-52

The heights as listed on the Adams Central boys’ basketball roster aren’t a stretch, and the players aren’t just tall but strong, too.

Yes, the season should be a good one for Adams Central coach Aaron McClure and his towering team.

Lions roar over ranked Jets in opener, 34-32

    MONROE—The Leo Lions gave the #1-ranked Adams Central Jets a rude awakening at the Hangar on Thursday night stunning the home team 34-32 in an ACAC mat dual.
    As the top-ranked team in the small school division entering their season opener, AC looked the part after a quick pin to start from senior Ben Pfister at 195.
    AC's 6-0 lead would be their last, however.

Young Starfires hold off Railroaders, 42-31

    BERNE — South Adams freshman Gabe Schwartz responded to the pressure of his first varsity wrestling match, delivering the sudden fall at 170 pounds that sealed a 42-31 Starfires' victory over Garrett Thursday night in the season opener at the Stardome.
    "Schwartz comes up with a huge win as a freshmen and wins a meet for us. He was thrown right in it and got it done," praised South Adams coach Eric Myers after the ACAC meet.

Jets and Stars set to take mat tonight

    Ten experienced wrestlers dot the lineup as Class A No. 1 Adams Central opens its season at home Thursday with ACAC foe Leo.
    The Jets of coach Doug Schultz will have only one freshman in the lineup, 106-pounder Tucker Miller, while five seniors give the Jets a veteran look.
    Former state streeter Cody Walburn (90-11) will start his final season at 126 for the Jets, while Ben Pfister, state rated at 182 pounds, will open at 195 pounds for his second and last campaign for Central.
