Three Adams County baseball players were named to the honorable mention list for their respective classes this week on the All-State baseball teams named by the IHSBCA (Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association).
The 2012 Adams County Golf Championship took place over the weekend, beginning Saturday at the The Golf Club of the Limberlost in Geneva and finishing up Sunday at Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.
In the ladies division, defending champion Brenda Shifferly won her 13th Adams County trophy with rounds of 78 & 75 (153) over both courses.
"I scored really well over the past two days," Brenda stated afterwards. "It was a gratifying win."
Bixler Insurance added to their winning ways when they topped Decatur Dental, 8-1 on Friday night.
Mitchel Coates had three hits in the game to pace Bixler's, Isaac Ruble had two hits including a triple, Caden Staub, Andrew Wagner, & Chris Jones each had two hits and Isaiah Wellman added one. Kory Feasel, Carter Siefring, and Sean Hoffman singled for Dental.
FRANKLIN—Chase Ellsworth, Bellmont's sophomore linksman and lone representative at the state golf finals, has made the cut for the final round of the 36-hole event at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana.
After stellar seasons by both South Adams and Adams Central that concluded prematurely at the sectional level, both the Jets and Starfires can take a little bit of solace in the releasing of the Allen County Athletic Conference's all-conference selections released this week. The All-Area team has also been announced that includes the NHC, ACAC, SAC, and neighboring county schools as well.
INDIANAPOLIS—The storybook ending would have been seeing the Adams Central Lady Jets pull off the unlikely and win their first state championship on Saturday afternoon at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Unfortunately, sometimes the better team wins and AC came up short against South Putnam, a team who went 31-0 to finish off a perfect season and their second straight 2A title with a 3-1 win over the upstart Lady Jets.
After the contest, the deflated Jets had mixed emotions on their run.
KOKOMO—Perhaps it was just a foretelling of things to come in the class 3A baseball semi-state game won 11-6 by Western High School over Bellmont at Highland Park Saturday when the start of the game was delayed for several minutes.
Never before in the history of Adams Central High School has a Jet softball team ever won an IHSAA sectional tournament, let alone a regional tournament, and heaven forbid, even think about a semi-state championship.
This year, however, a group of Adams Central ball players have banded together to play a game they love. That dedication of the game puts them in the IHSAA state finals this Saturday against the South Putnam Eagles, a team that arguably is a strong favorite to win the crown.
There are four teams left in the 3A state finals for baseball in Indiana and the Bellmont Braves are one of them for the first time since 2002 when Jon Stevens' group of Braves fell to Vincennes Lincoln, 4-0 in the state final.
Despite the visit to Victory Field in Indianapolis back in 2002, the Braves are still without a semi-state title due to the fact that there was not a semi-state conducted from 2000-03.
