Celina too much for BHS; Beery, McNamara post wins

    CELINA—Bellmont opened its spring sports calendar Tuesday afternoon traveling to the Buckeye state for a triangular boys and girls track meet for the first action of the season for Bellmont teams.
    Celina's powerful teams easily won both meets scoring 91 in the boys event as compared to 46 for Spencerville and 38 for the Braves while the girls match found the Squaws actually winning more events than Celina but losing to them 96-54 while Spencerville trailed with 25.

Beat the Pros Challenge: Elite Eight Standings

    The Final Four teams are locked in as of Sunday and the results for the Beat the Pros Challenge are posted below. Ken Krause now sits atop the standings with a whopping 109 points out of a possible 128. The top 20 brackets will earn prizes from local Decatur businesses with the final score of the National Championship determining tie-breakers. There are several brackets that no longer have the ability to earn points due to their teams being eliminated. Those brackets are signaled with an asterisk (*) after their name.

Beat the Pros Challenge: Sweet 16 Standings

    Today's and tomorrow's Elite Eight games will decide which four teams will make a trip to Indianapolis for the Final Four next weekend. As of now, Phyllis Smith still leads as she had seven of the eight teams correctly named in her bracket. There is still plenty of time to play catch up if the brackets shake up some more this weekend. The full results are below.

Beat the Pros Challenge: Round of 32 Standings

     With the Sweet 16 set to kick off this week, several bracket hopefuls were crushed over the weekend when Villanova, Kansas, and Virginia ended their seasons. Phyllis Smith remains at the top of the standings with 51 points, while the only bracket without a name also sits with 51 points. Ashley Malone alone in third place with a 50 with several with 49. The complete standings are below. The next score update will be after the Sweet 16 round is complete.

BHS takes 4th at Indoor State

    WEST LAFAYETTE—Bellmont's string of girls back-to-back indoor state track titles in the small school division came to an end Saturday at the annual HSR Championships held at Purdue University but the Squaws still managed a strong fourth place finish out of 47 teams that scored.
    BHS distance runner Bailey Beery, however, breezed her way to victory in the 3200 meter jaunt with a time of 11:07, a new indoor school record for the Squaws, and only two seconds off the outdoor record of 11:05 held by Wendy Mahlan.

Beat the Pros Challenge: Friday 2nd round

March 21, 2015

       A day after the upsets made waves in the NCAA tournament, 15 of the 16 Friday games were won by higher seeds bringing a bit of sanity back to the bracket world. After the second round of play, there are a few brackets with 28 out of 32 games correct and they belong to Mary Nilsen and Jim Pollock. 

      Games played on Saturday and Sunday for the round of 32 will be recorded and graded on Monday. Results will be posted Monday afternoon. Keep track of how your bracket stacks up!
