Kalver honored at IHSWCA Hall banquet

WZBD broadcaster AJ Kalver, former Columbia City coach Randy Kearby and current East Noble coach Keith Hoffar were among those who received induction honors Sunday Sunday at the annual IHSWCA Hall of Fame banquet held in Greenwood.
Kalver, the former Bellmont coach, was inducted as a coach in 2010 and received his latest honor because of 35 years of wrestling broadcasts, starting with WADM in 1980. He was introduced by South Adams coach Barry Humble, who had nominated Kalver for the honor.

Kentucky played host to SEC league door matt Auburn and appropriately blew them out of the gym. Kentucky used a 23-2 run in the first half to break open a 27 point first half lead. They never looked back as Auburn never seriously threatened again. Karl Anthony Towns led Kentucky with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

    INDIANAPOLIS — "It didn't end how I wanted it to, but I was on the podium. It felt great," stated Adams Central senior Kaine Luginbill, expressing feelings he likely shared with South Adams' Sawyer Miller as the Adams County wrestlers closed out their prep mat careers with fourth place and second place respectively Saturday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

     Kentucky came out and took care of business against one of the SEC cellar dwellers. The Wildcats opened up a 25 point lead before the half was over and then put in in cruise control for the second half. Willie Cauley-Stein led the balanced scoring effort by Kentucky with 14 points.

State bound!!! County sends seven to Banker's Life

    FORT WAYNE — In the semi-state match that highlighted the crucial ticket round, Bellmont junior Carter Friedt would not be denied, taking down previously unbeaten Eric Dunten of Carroll with three seconds to go to secure the upset, and a ticket to join his three teammates in the opening round of the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament this Friday at Banker's Life Fieldhouse.

Kalver joins the wrestling Hall...again

    The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame announced recently that WZBD broadcaster A.J. Kalver will be this year's inductee as the media person of the year at the annual postseason banquet.
    This is the first time that the IHSWCA media distinction award has been presented to a radio broadcaster.
    Kalver is already in the IHSWCA Hall as a coach, having been inducted in 2011.
