Braves sixth among wrestling juggernauts at Al Smith

    MISHAWAKA — The Penn Kingsmen separated themselves from the Al Smith Wrestling Classic Field Wednesday afternoon, taking four championships and adding a pair of runners-up to pile up 242 points to the 213 of second place Merrillville as Brad Harper's boys racked up a third straight championship and a fourth title in the last five years in one of Indiana's biggest mat tourneys.

   Three perfect brackets made up the top three this week for Pigskin Picks week 16. The tie-breaker score was 55 between Purple Bowl contestants Colorado State and Utah. Jarred McGill made a big leap into the top 10 with a first place finish -0 (54), while Craig Krull finished second at -0 (58) with Mike Jauregui taking third with a score of -0 (49).

Central goes 3-2 at Y’town

    YORKTOWN— Adams Central won three matches at the tough Yorktown Super Duals Saturday, including a stunning 50-27 reversal of a previous loss to Leo.
    Though the Jets lost to host Yorktown, ranked seventh in the state overall and tops in 2A, the Jets had a big win as senior Kaine Luginbill came off of his back to pin Dillon Jackson.
    The Jets knocked off a solid Floyd Central team, 47-30, lost to Elkhart Memorial, 47-24, then whipped Maconaquah 78-6 before losing to the hosts 55-13.
