Kable sinks buzzer-beater in OT for Jets; Braves and Stars lose

    CHURUBUSCO—Blade Kable sank a three-pointer from the top of the key at the end of overtime to give the Flying Jets a thrilling road victory over the Churubusco Eagles to open their season Wednesday night, 58-56.
    The Eagles' Brent Simmons shot two free throws with 10 seconds to play in the overtime and 'Busco down two points. After sinking the first Simmons missed the second but managed to snag his own rebound and his putback gave the Eagles a temporary lead at 56-55.

Braves open mat season with lopsided win over Eagles

    In the 42nd meeting of the Bellmont Braves and the Columbia City Eagles, it was BHS who came away with an impressive 57-12 victory to open the season with a win at the Teepee Tuesday night.
    Bellmont, now 39-3 all-time against City, defeated the Eagles by a similar score on the road last season to open their campaign, 51-19, and they looked no less effective this time around.

Fuelling named to MAC volleyball squads

    MUNCIE—Former Bellmont High School volleyball standout Alex Fuelling was honored recently as she was named to the Mid-American Conference first team in a vote of MAC coaches.

Lady Stars take 3-0 start to season, down UCity 42-34

    BERNE—Back-to-back treys by South Adams sophomore guard Sydney Willis in the third period Saturday night erased any hopes of a Union City comeback and the Starfires moved to 3-0 on the season with a 42-34 triumph in non-conference action.
    The South Adams Lady Stars basketball team has started 3-0 thanks to a pair of overtime wins against Blackford and Eastbrook to start the season.

Squaws struggle for scores against Patriots, 39-20

    After two tough games on the road to open their 2013-2014 campaign, the Bellmont girls basketball team entertained Jay County in a non-conference tilt at the Teepee Friday night but found offense hard to find enroute to a 39-20 setback.
    After a close first four minutes of the game that found the Squaws trailing just 6-4, Jay County opened the floodgates with back-to-back treys and soared to a 17-5 edge at the end of the period.

AC volleyball donates to AMH

     The Adams Central girl’s volleyball team recently donated $375 to Adams Memorial Hospital’s Strickler Cancer Institute in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The money was collected at the AC/South Adams game, which was designated as a “Pink Out” game.

Bishop Dwenger forces Squaw miscues in win, 63-47

    FORT WAYNE— It took two and a half quarters to break the spirit of the Squaws Tuesday night at Bishop Dwenger.
    The Saints' only three-pointer of the game came with two minutes left to play in the third frame from the hands of Erin Ryan after a Bellmont turnover pushing the once manageable lead to 11 points at 40-29 and Dwenger would eventually cruise to a 63-47 finish.

Squaws take 4th in swim opener at Norwell; AC 7th

    KINGSLAND— Bishop Dwenger outscored Columbia City 267-262 in the quest for first place at the Norwell Invitational Saturday kicking off the swimming season for the girls in Adams County.
    Bellmont finished fourth with 215 behind third place Oak Hill (225), while Norwell finished fifth at 185, Bluffton was sixth at 131, and the Lady Jets were last with just 17 points.
