Lady Cadets size too much for Squaws in rout, 50-20

    FORT WAYNE—The good news for the Bellmont Squaws basketball team Tuesday night was they didn't miss a single foul shot in their non-conference clash with the state's fifth-ranked Concordia Cadets.
    Unfortunately, when there's good news, there's usually bad news as well and in this situation it was that the Squaws shot ZERO foul shots on the night with Concordia being whistled for only four common fouls in the game as the host Cadets breezed their way to an easy 50-20 decision over the Squaws.

   The Alabama/Auburn thriller seemed to be the common denomonator for this week's Pigskin misses as even the top three brackets featured at least one wrong. Those select few who happened to forsee Auburn's miraculous win missed one or more of the other contests this week.

Miller, Gillette highlight Rainbow 5k in Geneva

    GENEVA— Sawyer Miller, a senior at South Adams, took first place overall at the sixth annual Rainbow Lake 5k run on November 30.
    With a time of 17:00.8, Miller was a winner by over a minute as Nathan Rupp of Rockford finished second overall at 18:08.8.
    Melissa Gillette was the top female finisher with a time of 18:28, while Denise Conrad was second overall for the women at 20:27.

Braves take third at Yorktown Super Duals, go 3-2

    YORKTOWN— The Braves mat men finished third place at the annual Yorktown Super Duals on Saturday going 3-2 against some of the state's stiffer competition.
    Bellmont's only losses on the day came against a pair of ranked teams in the state in #8 Yorktown and #10 New Palestine but the Braves posted wins against New Albany, Delta, and a close match against Cincinnati LaSalle.

Lady Stars push to 4-0; tops best start in school history

    BLUFFTON— Using a great variety of floor space creating offense, the Lady Starfires have improved to 4-0 on the season for the first time in their school history with a road win over the Bluffton Lady Tigers Friday night 53-33.
    "Our balance is definitely a problem we pose to teams this year," explained SA coach Brett Freeman, now in his second year at the helm of a program on the hottest start ever for the school.

Jets and Stars sit atop first wrestling polls

    Adams County rivals Adams Central and South Adams lead the way among small schools in the wrestling season’s first statewide poll by classes.
     The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) released its first classed rankings Wednesday. The poll is important as teams prepare for the IHSWCA Team State Dual Meet tournament at Westfield on January 4, 2014.

Kable sinks buzzer-beater in OT for Jets; Braves and Stars lose

    CHURUBUSCO—Blade Kable sank a three-pointer from the top of the key at the end of overtime to give the Flying Jets a thrilling road victory over the Churubusco Eagles to open their season Wednesday night, 58-56.
    The Eagles' Brent Simmons shot two free throws with 10 seconds to play in the overtime and 'Busco down two points. After sinking the first Simmons missed the second but managed to snag his own rebound and his putback gave the Eagles a temporary lead at 56-55.

Braves open mat season with lopsided win over Eagles

    In the 42nd meeting of the Bellmont Braves and the Columbia City Eagles, it was BHS who came away with an impressive 57-12 victory to open the season with a win at the Teepee Tuesday night.
    Bellmont, now 39-3 all-time against City, defeated the Eagles by a similar score on the road last season to open their campaign, 51-19, and they looked no less effective this time around.
