Adams Central, which ended Bellmont's 22-year sectional skein in 2013, had three champions and advanced 10 in a solid second-place effort (211 points), while Barry Humble's South Adams Starfires took fourth, also with three champs, and seven advancing.

Braves seek new streak; Jets hope for repeat

January 31, 2014

The often-quoted life lesson, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," is a nice philosophy, but it's a creed that's a bear to put into practice.
For Bellmont wrestling, it's a way of life. The Braves were physically humbled by a talent-reeking state championship Perry Meridian team, 69-3, three weeks ago, and on their home mat. That same day they knocked off state-ranked, and state-invited Bloomington South, 45-29.

Carroll steals NHC wrestling crown

January 30, 2014

NEW HAVEN — Bellmont and Carroll were in a real NHC tug of war Wednesday night. The difference was likely a loose tooth.
The Chargers defended their NHC Tournament crown, topping the Braves 231-226. Carroll got a break in the 145-pound semi-finals when Bellmont's second seeded senior Logan Neher took a shot in the mouth from Carroll's Alex Arney, and the bolt loosened a front tooth. It was just hanging on.

Beery earns two awards at Track Banquet

January 29, 2014

More accolades for Bellmont standout runner Bailey Beery continue to roll in despite the fact cross country season ended three months ago and track season is about two months away.
Beery learned last Sunday evening at the annual Fort Wayne Track Club banquet held at the Hotel Fort Wayne that she was the recipient of the Chris Brown Outstanding High School Female Distance Runner Award a feat that Bellmont cross country and track coach Carl Risch called "a really big deal."

Jets’ defense tames Tigers in ACAC clash, 42-28

January 24, 2014

MONROE — Bluffton guard Kevin Moser knocked down a triple and Josh Moriarity put back a miss to give Bluffton five points.
That was it for the first half.
The Tigers struggled mightily against the AC 2-3 zone and faced an 18-5 halftime deficit. The Jets would hold on to the conference win, 42-28.

Braves look to stay solid for NHC bouts; Carroll favored

January 24, 2014

With 13 seeds, including three No. 1 spots, Bellmont's battle-hardened Braves have a real shot at the Northeast Hoosier Conference Wrestling Tournament crown Saturday at the BHS gym. Of course, they'll have to fight off defending tourney champ Carroll, the dual meet 2014 winner, and East Noble, which finished second last year with six titles. Four of those winners return.
"It's a three-team race," said Bellmont coach Brent Faurote, who is taking a team into a conference tourney for the 26th time.

Swim Squaws top DeKalb

January 23, 2014

The Bellmont swimming and diving teams split with visiting DeKalb on Tuesday night at home as the Squaws handled the Lady Barons 127-49 and the Braves' contest was left unresolved at a 91-91 tie.
The BHS girls took first and second place in all three relays.
Senior Sarah Evans had two first place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Other firsts for Bellmont included Rachel Klingensmith, Oliva Hamilton, Mae Baczynski, Reagan Burry, Hannah Myers and Allyson Norby in diving.

Streaking Braves dominate SAdams at Stardome, 63-12

January 22, 2014

BERNE — Bellmont's Logan Neher handed South Adams' junior Boaz Marbach his first loss in two months, scoring a 9-3 victory at 145 pounds, and the Braves continued their strong late-season push with a 63-12 win over the Starfires in the final dual meet of the season for both clubs.
Bellmont won 11 matches, scoring eight falls, and took a forfeit at 138 in the rout, which surprised both coaches.
