Lions ‘catch’ Jets for 42-28 mat win

    After AC's Jarod Schwartz topped Leo's Isaac Stuery 4-2 in a tough 152-pound battle to put the Jets up by seven, then Lions responded with three straight first period falls en route to a 42-28 ACAC victory over the Jets Thursday night at the Jets' P.E. gym.

BHS tankers zap Blackford

    Two lopsided victories were recorded by Bellmont over Blackford in varsity swimming on Thursday, with the Braves winning 124 to 34 and the Squaws winning 139 to 36.
    The Squaws won all 11 events and the Braves won nine of 11 contests.

Starfires’ trio given All-State HM honor

    INDIANAPOLIS — South Adams all-purpose back Taylor LeFever, quarterback Dustin Wanner and punter Chaise Moore all were given Honorable-Mention on the Class A Associated Press All-State football team released Wednesday afternoon.
    No other players from the county were named to the AP team. Norwell's Jeff Shatto, the Knights' strong tight end, was put on the 3A All-State first team.

Jackson carries Boston College over Indiana 88-76

    BOSTON (AP) — Boston College coach Steve Donahue’s style of play is starting to pay off quickly. Just ask Indiana coach Tom Crean.
    Reggie Jackson scored 27 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists to lift Boston College to an 88-76 win over Indiana on Wednesday in an Atlantic Coast Conference/Big Ten Challenge matchup.
    The victory improved the Eagles (5-2) to 5-0 against the Big Ten since joining the ACC. The Eagles are the only unbeaten school in the series of either conference.

Cadets hold off Squaws

    A last period charge by the Bellmont Squaws Tuesday night fell just short as a strong Concordia Cadet team escaped from the Teepee with a 42-38 non-conference girls basketball victory.

Starfire tankers sweep past Jets

    The South Adams boys won all 12 blue ribbons in a 130-55 win at Adams Central Tuesday, while the SA girls made it a sweep, winning eight of 12, in a 107-78 victory over the Lady Jets.
    Caleb Wurster won the 200 IM and the 500 free, and Cole Farlow took the 100 and 50 freestyle events, and both were on a pair of winning relay teams to lead the victory.

Starfires sweep at Homestead

    FORT WAYNE — South Adams improved to 6-0 on the season with a sweep at the Homestead Super Duals on Saturday.
    The Starfires downed the host Spartans 38-30 in the key matchup on the day. SA also downed Snider 48-21, slammed Heritage 61-9, blasted Marion 66-12 and doubled Churubusco 47-23.
    Scoring falls in the huge win over Homestead were: Josh Ehr at 152, Cody Conner at 189, LJ Moser at 112, and Gabe Sprunger at 135.

Raiders take down Jets 42-34

    Southern Wells won girls' varsity and reserve basketball games against Adams Central on Saturday night.
    The varsity score was 42-34, with AC's Alyssa Keller scoring 12, Olivia Macklin eight points and five rebounds, and Madison Carroll seven points and six rebounds, while Lindsey McDougall took eight rebounds and Bess Fiechter made four steals.
    SW's Perry had 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists; Carter scored nine points; and Banter had seven.

Braves press out 68-43 victory over Warriors

    WOODBURN — Bellmont turned up the heat at Woodburn Saturday night, scoring at least 15 points in all four quarters while limiting the host Warriors to just 38 shots for the game in a 68-43 non-conference victory.
    "We scored some points off of our press, and that's what I wanted us to do tonight," stated Bellmont coach Larry Patterson, who saw his Braves even their early-season mark at 1-1.

Yorkies win round 1, topple Braves 35-25

    PERU — With five consecutive wins starting at 103 pounds, No. 5 Yorktown overcame a 22-12 Bellmont lead to score a 35-25 win over the No. 11 Braves in the title match at the Peru Invitational Saturday.
    It was the third straight win for Yorktown over Bellmont. The Braves had won all 15 previous meetings.
