FORT WAYNE—The Braves squared off against Indiana's class 1A repeat state champions on the soccer pitch Thursday night eventually losing a 3-0 battle in the opening game of regionals.
Coming in with their fourth sectional title in school history, Bellmont played physical with Canterbury in the first game at Carroll but the talented 2A school, who made the lead to 2A soccer this season, made their mark in the first 30 seconds of play.

Landing on a list of 12 of the best singles players from the second of three districts in Indiana, Bellmont's Evan Selking was voted onto the team.
Fans watching the IHSAA girls cross country sectional race at Bellmont Tuesday afternoon wondered for a period of time if the final 67 runners had gotten lost on the back portion of the 5K course.
As expected, Bellmont's Bailey Beery pounded out a blistering 18:21.4 finish which not only was good for first place but also shattered the Bellmont course record set in 2008 by DeKalb's Autumn Beachy of 18:34.
Dennis McBarnes was the clear winner this week for Pigskin Picks missing just the Houston/St. Louis game and was one off of the tie-breaker point total of 48 points. With three contestants tying at -1 (45) points and only two prize spots available, the second tie-breaker was a blind draw to determine who would win second and third place. Greg Coyne was picked for second place and Kenny Grim earned third place with the next draw. Joyce Schultz was the unlucky entrant left just out of the prizes. :(
IHSAA RELEASE— A day after the football pairings were announced, the Indiana High School Athletic Association released the match-ups for girls volleyball amongst 402 entrants around the state.
The tournament will begin on Tuesday, October 22 and run through Saturday at 64 different sites and four classes.
