‘Dedication’ key as Brewer earns soccer opportunity at St. Francis

    "She's probably going to play outside mid for us. She has awesome speed, and she's a smart player," praised St. Francis College girls soccer coach Christy Young, speaking of Bellmont senior Jessica Brewer.
    Brewer recently committed to play soccer for Young, who has coached Brewer in travel soccer over the years.

Harvey adjusts BHS 200 mark

    CHURUBUSCO — Alexis Harvey ran a career-best 25.06, setting the Bellmont mark by .34 of a second, winning the 200-meter event with what may be the fastest time recorded in Indiana this spring, in winning the blue in the Turtle Town Classic Saturday at Churubusco.
    Harvey, who finished second in the 100 meter dash with a 12.45,  had the only first for Bellmont, which finished seventh in the 12-team Gold Division.

Braves 2nd at Concordia meet

    FORT WAYNE—A 14-team Concordia Invitational at Foster Park Golf Course Saturday turned into a two-team horse race with sixth-ranked Norwell rallying on the back nine to fashion a 291-309 win over Bellmont.
    The Braves led by one at the turn but sub-par rounds from McCormick Clouser and Ross Matthews from Norwell turned the tide to the Knight's favor. Clouser fired a sparkling 67 with Matthews just one behind him at 68.

AC track squads dominate Raiders

    Adams Central ran away with both the boys and girls ACAC track meet with Southern Wells Thursday afternoon, scoring a huge 92-31 win in the boys meet and a 70-53 victory in the girls.
    The Jets girls won nine firsts with Briona Case taking three firsts, winning the 100 in n13.2, the 200 in 28.9, and the long jump with a leap of 15'6".

Softball Jets nip Raiders 3-2

    PONETO — Two of the better pitchers in the ACAC softball picture squared off at Southern Wells High School Thursday afternoon and Adams Central survived the contest with a 3-2 triumph over the host Raiders.
    Sydnee Peterson tossed a five-hitter for the win for the Jets fanning a pair and walking only one while Cristin Carter retired nine AC batters on strikes, walked none, and allowed just five hits. Both teams only had one earned run and defensive lapses in the fourth cost Southern Wells a pair of runs.

Braves rated No. 10 in state poll

    Unbeaten Bellmont, which has blasted away the opposition in its last four games with 55 runs and 60 hits, is rated 10th in the most recent 3A Coaches Baseball Poll.
    Adams Central, off to a 2-3 start, has the 12th most votes in the 2A poll.

Schultz inks with Newberry

    In a special ceremony last week at Bellmont, Bellmont All-State volleyball player Madison Schultz signed a letter of intent to play college ball at Newberry College in South Carolina.
    Schultz, the daughter of Scott and Cami Schultz of Decatur, played a critical role for Craig Krull's 2010 state 3A championship volleyball team at Bellmont, and she also was a member of the 2007 state champions at BHS. She played all four years and was a starter in three of those years.

Braves continue tear with 19-4 thrashing of Cadets

    "We are hitting the cover off the ball," underestimated Bellmont baseball coach Ben Fawbush after his Braves delivered a 19-4 spanking to the Concordia Cadets Monday night at the Bellmont diamond in non-conference play.
    Fawbush attributed a batting practice session recently in which "they got about 500 cuts each and it showed. The last four games we have had 13, 14, 15, and 18 hits respectively. These guys know what they are capable of and they are proving it."

Baker’s key double lifts Jets at Norwell

    OSSIAN — A two-run double off the wall in left field by Sammie Baker broke an Adams Central scoring drought and helped propel the Jets to an 8-1 victory over Norwell Monday night at the  Knights' field.

BHS linksmen dominate 7 — team meet Saturday

    So dominant was the Bellmont golf program Saturday morning was evidenced by the fact their second team beat four of the seven teams entered in the annual Bellmont Invitational at the Cross Creek Golf Course.
    The number one Bellmont team was never threatened in the meet as they took just 329 strokes to win the 18-hole event. Second place Jay County was in another zip code with 390 strokes while the Bellmont Blue squad fired a respectable 393.
