Top boys cage post goes to home grown John Baker

    He comes highly recommended from Purdue coach Matt Painter and from Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin, and former Bellmont standout varsity coach Shaun Busick chimed in with his support. He's John Baker, who will likely be one of the youngest head boys basketball coaches in the state of Indiana next year when he jumps from his jayvee post of one year to top spot in the program at Bellmont High.

Patriots hold down Braves 5-3

    "How 'bout dem Patriots," said Heritage coach Dean Lehrman after his charges clipped Bellmont 5-3 Tuesday, to improve to 10-5 overall.
    "It has been many a year since Heritage has beaten the Bellmont Braves on a baseball field," pointed out the veteran coach.

Squaws’ 1600 team sizzles to best ever time, but no record

    Three of the four Bellmont 1600 relay runner set season's bests, including a sizzling 59.7 leg by lead runner Alexis Harvey, as the Squaws held off a strong Carroll group for the victory Tuesday at the BHS oval, and they did it with the fastest recorded time in the history of the Squaws track program.
    But it wasn't a record.

Sanders sets mark for Franklin

    DEFIANCE, Oh —  Senior second baseman Ian Sanders (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont H.S.) collected three hits and broke the Franklin College career record in that stat department in the second game of Saturday's Heartland Conference baseball doubleheader at Defiance.

Lady Jets thrash Fremont; improve to 8-1 for season

    MONROE—Adams Central cashed in a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday evening to send their visitors from Steuben County home early and captured a 12-2 win over Fremont in non-conference play.
    The Jets, now 8-1 on the season, scored in every at bat starting off with four in the first and three more in the second. They added a single tally in the third and got two in the fourth and fifth to win by the 10-run mercy rule.

Squaws handle Tiger netters

    Bellmont's girls' varsity tennis team went to 5-3 on Monday with a rain-shortened 3-1 win over Bluffton, which is 3-5.
    The Squaw wins were by Alysha Helmrich at No. 3 singles, 6-1 and 6-0, over Amanda Stone and by both doubles units: Madeline Albert and Abby Stimpson, 6-0 and 6-1, over Annessa Reiff and Allison Williams in No. 1 action,  plus Andrea Fruchte and Shelby Kiess by 6-2 and 7-6 (7-1) over Hannah Gilliam and Gina Eisenhut in No. 2 doubles.

Braves blast 2 from Wildcats

    Bellmont ripped six home runs, including two each by Gunnar Cale and Brian Hakes, and scored 20 runs on 32 hits in an 11-3, 9-4 twin bill sweep of Whitko Saturday at the BHS field.
    In the opener Cale and Hakes both slugged two-run home runs to right field in the bottom of the sixth. Ben Fullenkamp led off the fifth with a homer over the scoreboard in right field.

Jets’ nip Fremont for Invite victory

    MONROE — A first place finish in the 1,600 meter relay by the Adams Central boys track team Friday night allowed the Jets to take a narrow 137-134 win over Fremont in the annual Adams Central Track Invitational.

BHS finds one coach, loses another

    While it appears Bellmont High School may be on the verge of hiring a new football coach to replace the recently resigned Rick Burkhalter, it was learned Thursday that another major sport coach has resigned.
    Bellmont girls varsity basketball coach Tory Fuelling has confirmed he has submitted his resignation as coach to athletic director Dale Manis noting "I've been doing this (coaching girls basketball) for 11 years, seven as an assistant and four as head coach. It's time now to take a look at doing something else."

Rain prompts high school sporting events to be rescheduled

    Rain, rain go away seems to be the new mantra for area athletic directors as they scramble to reschedule events postponed due to recent rainy weather.
    Bellmont has had to alter its schedule somewhat this week to accommodate NHC contests and will now host Columbia City on Friday instead of South Adams at 5 p.m. A new date for the BHS-SA game has not yet been determined.
