Braves try doubles to take Stars 7-3

    Bellmont could manage just three hits off South Adams pitching  in a non-conference Senior Night game at Bellmont Tuesday night but all were doubles in the fifth inning and two were two-run  shots to give the Braves a 7-3 triumph over the Starfires.
    Will Busse and Brian Hakes both drilled long two-run two-baggers to right centerfield to drive in four of the five Bellmont runs and relievers Matt Chronister and Brandon Voglewede shut the Stars down on just one hit  and one walk over their final four at bats.

    It gets tougher, right now.
    Bellmont has seven girls slated for action in the Northrop Girls Track Sectional tonight and, though Bellmont has one runner seeking a second straight state berth, and some talented freshmen who have some credentials to make it to state, there are no guarantees, just a lot of competition at one of the toughest track regionals in the state.

    WABASH — Adams Central rocked out 25 hits in a 10-1, 14-3 double-header sweep at Southwood Saturday, improving to 15-6 on the season.
    The Jets pounded out seven runs in the first two innings of the first game, and then the solid Jets' defense took control of the game Sammie Baker slammed three singles and Olivia Macklin knocked in three runs for the Lady Jets.

    FORT WAYNE — It was a big day for Ben Snider. It was a huge day for Troy Tonner.
    The Adams Central juniors turned in some of the best performances of their lives as Tonner won both the shot and discus, setting the AC record in the latter, and Snider celebrated his first year in organized track with a third-place shot put finish and a ticket to regional.
    "I'm blessed," stated a euphoric Tonner after a brief celebration with his friend and teammate Snider.

    OSSIAN—Bellmont posted its second straight 5-0 win in as many nights and Adams Central avenged one of its four season losses Thursday night to assure an all-Adams County final in the IHSAA tennis sectional being held at Norwell High School.
    Or as Bellmont tennis coach coach Tom Smith succinctly noted "we know AC and they know us. It should be a good match."
    Bellmont pounded out its win with solid singles play while doubles combination continued to show improvement.

BHS may re-interview football coach prospects

    With the announcement that Nate Andrews has decided not to come to Bellmont to coach the football Braves, Bellmont Principal Scott Croner will be reviewing his list of applicants and may re-interview some of the prospects, he told the Daily Democrat Wednesday afternoon.
     “We’ll begin the process of calling back and do interviews, and try to find the right fit for Bellmont,” stated Croner, who was extremely disappointed that Andrews did not accept the offer, though he understood the reasons.

Braves break skid, thump ‘Skins 10-0

    Bellmont and South Adams both picked up varsity baseball wins Wednesday with the Braves whipping on the North Side Redskins 10-0 and South Adams captured an 11-5 triumph from Union City.
    Bellmont pounded out three extra base hits including a double and home run by Landon Baker who finished the game with four RBIs for the Braves. Brooks Faurote had a triple among his two hits and was credited with a pair of RBIs and Nick Fuelling also hit safely twice in the contest. Brian Hakes had two RBIs for the Braves as well.

Tennis teams advance in sectional

    OSSIAN — Two Adams County teams advanced to the semi-final round of the IHSAA tennis sectional Saturday with opening wins Wednesday night at Norwell High School.
    Adams Central turned the tables on Huntington North with a 3-2 win after losing to the Vikings 4-1 just eight days ago while Bellmont shutout South Adams 5-0.

Andrews turns down BHS football offer

     "What happend was that we showed up at the board meeting and a lot of those hopes — our leap of faith — were crushed. We settled back, talked through some things, then came to the conclusion that this was not the right opportunity,  not the right time for us," stated a gracious Nate Andrews, after announcing Tuesday afternoon that he decided against signing a contract to coach football and teach at Bellmont High School.

    INDIANAPOLIS—Pairings for the annual baseball sectional were announced Tuesday by officials at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
    Sectionals will be held at Bellmont and Bishop Luers for schools involving Adams County teams (the Luers sectional is held at the Indiana Tech field in Fort Wayne).

   New Haven comes to town tonight in the first NHC volleyball match of the season for...
