Friedt, Becker named All-state academic at banquet

At the annual Bellmont wrestling team dessert held earlier this week, Bellmont head wrestling coach Brent Faurote announced that squad members Carter Friedt and Joe Becker earned Academic All-State honors.
Becker, a senior who earned his way to semi-state this year, was named First Team Senior Academic All-State in wrestling, while Friedt was named Second Team Junior Academic All-State.

Bellmont pushes through with locker room building plan

    The North Adams Athletic Fund Community was granted $2250.00 from the Adams County Community Foundation that enables the planning for the first project, the Bellmont Stadium Locker Room Complex. The money was used to fund a portion of the design work for this project.

Rims go cold for Bellmont; Norwell advances to final, 59-28

COLUMBIA CITY— The last of the three county schools fell in boys basketball sectional semi-finals action Friday night as the Bellmont Braves had no answer on offense or defense against cross-county rival Norwell, 59-28.
Behind the impressive shooting of senior Ian Kissell, the Knights outscored the Braves by a gaudy 22-2 score after the first eight minutes of play.

Ysidron, Petersen sign with Bethel

Blazers’ big fourth sparks win; Stars ousted at Woodlan

WOODBURN—What was a slim four-point lead for Eastside in their class 2A boys sectional 36 battle with South Adams Wednesday night with about 45 seconds to play in the third period quickly ballooned into a 22-point victory for the Blazers allowing them to advance to Friday night's semi-final round at Woodlan High School.
Eastside will play Canterbury in the second game Friday night after the Cavaliers edged Bluffton 61-56 last night in the nightcap game.

Warriors defense pesters Jets out of sectional play, 73-46

WOODBURN— The Adams Central Flying Jets ended their basketball season on Tuesday night as the home team Woodlan Warriors outscored them in the second half 44-23 ending in a lopsided 73-46 victory.
The win sends the Warriors to the semi-finals of sectional play set for Friday night against the Churubusco Eagles who drew the only bye.
The Jets trailed 29-23 at the halftime break despite leading 18-10 early in the second quarter. The first half was a battle of trends as Woodlan scored the game’s first eight points, including threes from Elijah O’Hara and Andrew Krahn.

Jets bounce back with Parkway win

MONROE—Adams Central's 6'7 junior center Luke Voirol came off the bench Thursday night to give the Jets a solid double-double and paced the host team to a 43-34 decision over the Parkway Panthers.
Voirol didn't start the game for the 6-14 Jets but entered several minutes into the contest and immediately made his presence known. With the Jets trailing 8-2, Voirol scored three first period baskets, the last of which came on the third offensive rebound of an AC possession to bring them back to within one at 11-10.

Kaine and Memphis follow family wrestling tradition

Adams Central's Kaine Luginbill capped off an unprecedented prep wrestling career Saturday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, standing on the podium with 117 wins under his belt, and a shiny fourth-place state medal draped around his neck.
"I'm retiring the singlet," Kaine announced two minutes after the medal ceremony at 170 pounds.
"It was fun while it lasted, and it felt good to end this way. It didn't end quite how I wanted it to, but I was on the podium."
The person who knows Kaine the best, his mother, Diane, is not surprised that he is ready to move on with his life.
