Indiana BLAST Running Club, a new organization developed in the fall of 2011, and coached by Scott Steffen for youth runners around the state, recently placed three teams in the top ten of the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics Cross Country National Championship. Seen above is Austin Boucher, brother of Evan Boucher a BHS runner who also participated in the event. Austin finished in first place nationally in the 3K race for youth ages 11-12 with a time of 9:51.

Bellmont 106-pound frosh Trevor Gray (top) headlocks New Haven freshman Kyle Bender en route to a 2:44 fall Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, in the dual at the Teepee. Gray was on top, then on his back, and rolled through for the win as Bellmont hammered the Bulldogs 64-12. The Braves will host an NHC triple-dual on Saturday morning.

Former Bellmont graduate, now MMA fighter, Evan Delong battled Keith Jasmantas at Spiece Fieldhouse on November 25, 2011, in an event called Kombat Zone 32: Black Friday Beat Down. Delong defeated Jasmantas with a rear naked choke submission in the first round at 2:47 to improve his official career record to 5-4. Adding non-sanctioned MMA fights, Delong is 10-6 as a professional.

    Bellmont High School's No. 1 male cheerleader and Homecoming King Zach Wetzel was working the crowd at Tuesday night's Regional volleyball match in which Yorktown knocked off the 2010 state champion Squaws.
    Wetzel, a senior and a standout on the school's golf team, also was hard at work last Friday as the football Braves posted a 62-7 football win at Blackford.
    He'll be leading the student section this Friday when the Braves host Yorktown in the second round of the Sectional.

Adams Central senior Madison Carroll is on the run Sept. 13, 2011, during powder puff football, a traditional element in the annual Homecoming Week activities. The senior girls were triumphant after beating the freshmen in the opener and the sophomores in the finals. The 10th graders defeated the juniors to reach the title game.

The seventh grade basketball team at St. Joseph School in Decatur scored some extra points this year when they took on a community service project. The boys and coaches spent three hours on a Saturday morning passing out food at the Harvest Food Bank in Fort Wayne, and also helped stock shelves and sort food.
