What a Summer Olympics.
I could stop right there an it would sum up nicely how fantastic the London Games have been and not just for the United States.
You just don’t understand how fast Usain Bolt is until you actually see him run…unless you blinked and missed him run.
The United States’ women’s gymnastics were absolutely as stellar as advertised with America’s sweethearts earning the gold and doing well individually.

It’s impossible to begin today’s entry anywhere other than with the tragic death of Spc. Nick Taylor, the young man who gave his life in Afghanistan and will be laid to rest next Tuesday in his native Berne.

Okay, so Penn State got the almost-death penalty and its football program is more than decimated, it's obliterated. Well deserved.
But does anyone REALLY think the culture, as some have suggested, is going to change? Oh, sure, for a time — maybe six months, maybe a year — the money monster that is college football may go a bit slower. But by the time the 2013 season rolls around we'll venture to say college football will be right back where it was before the Jerry Sandusky thing hit the fan.

When I saw the trailer for LOCKOUT before it hit theaters I thought it looked interesting but not enough for me to shell out the $8 for a matinee ticket. Actually, there are few movies these days that make me feel that way.
So I'm happy to report that the movie, just released on DVD, is well worth that $8 and more. No, it's not LAWRENCE OF ARABIA but it does offer plenty of entertainment for your money.
The Olympics are drawing near but rather than soil the games with my thoughts before anything actually happens, I thought I’d write about another love of mine that is drawing near…FANTASY FOOTBALL!
I know that some of you may not share my love for this fictional sport and maybe even think it’s just plain silly but I think that it’s a step up from having an imaginary friend seeing as how you use actual athletes and you play against actual people.

That a storm which ripped through here on June 29 caused widespread damage is well-known. What isn't known but to only a few people is the tale of the "storm" which hit the communications center in the county jail that day, due to the storm outside.
The comm center received 915 calls via the 911 lines. No, that's not a typo: 915 calls. Nine hundred and fifteen.

Nicolas Cage has made some great movies and some bad. The sad truth is that lately he's made more mediocre films than ever. Perhaps that's because he's been making them at such a frantic pace; or at least it seems that way. In any event his latest thrille,r SEEKING JUSTICE, offers a decent night's entertainment but still finds itself in that so-so stack of Cage films.
With the Olympics looming, baseball in full swing, and football on the horizon, the one sign that NBA basketball is relevant again for the first time since Jordan? Sports fans are still talking about it…
I’m sure that once the dust settles on the free agency, we’ll all be focused on the torch finally making it to Olympic Stadium on July 27, day 70. It seems like it takes longer and longer for the runners to make their way to their final destination every four years…
I took a stab at coaching baseball this little league season and I saw a lot of things that amazed me, some that brought back memories, and some things that my group of guys did that was just plain silly this summer. I really loved the chance to get to educate some kids on America's past time and I look forward to coaching again next season.
While thinking about what I would write for this week's Chillin, I saw a lot of great fireworks and that got me to thinking...
What comes to mind when I think about Independence Day is a lot of explosions and fire. I took a look in the sports history archives to try and find some "Independence Day-esque" sports performances...
