Hop's Heresy— Super talk and coach Humble

February 6, 2015

With all the second-guessing surrounding "the pass" that resulted in the Seattle Seahawks ripping defeat from the jaws of almost certain Super Bowl victory last Sunday night, what has not been discussed is that Patriots coach Bill Belichick forced the situation when he made the gamble not to call timeout.

Hop's Heresy—Superbowl picks & mat thoughts

January 31, 2015

By Jim Hopkins
I tried to weave around the defender and get the potential winning bucket off the board before the final second expired, but it didn't go down.
Luckily, I was fouled and went to the line, the clock on all zeroes, with two chances to ice down the victory for my team. The first try lipped in and out, and the second bounced off the back of the rim, pulling my teammates back on the floor for overtime.

Chillin' with Dylan— Peyton’s next big NFL move

It was one of the most obvious “passing of the torch” moments in sports history last weekend.
Peyton Manning walked away from that game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday having thrown just one touchdown pass on 26-46 attempts for a very human 211 yards against his former team.
For those fans looking for validation that Andrew Luck was the right move post-Manning...you’re welcome.

Chillin' with Dylan— Some holiday gifts for friends

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the school, not an athlete was practicing, nor swimming in the pool.
That’s what’s going on the next few days for the holidays. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

Chillin' with Dylan — Into the cold we go...

While I’m thrilled for the Starfires football and their raucous drive to the semi-state game, it has put a wrinkle in my Winter Sports Preview plans.
This is a good problem to have, I suppose. It’s much better than being on time with every preview because all of our fall teams have been awful. We have, for school size purposes, one of the most blessed counties in Indiana at large in every season.

Just a Thought — Old Glory: Long may she wave

September 29, 2014

After what has been a long, long hiatus — during which I was unable to share my stimulating opinion on any number of matters — things are beginning to settle down here at the DDD, affording me the time needed to mesmerize our readers with my thoughts.
All joking aside, there have been several times in the past few months I found myself wishing for the time to write a column about one thing or another. And while most of those topics have come and gone, one is still hovering in the recesses of my often-clouded mind.

Chillin' with Dylan— The state of the NFL name

September 16, 2014

Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, and a slew of other NFL athletes have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the last few weeks and with so much confusion and chaos surrounding the circumstances, I think it’s time the NFL puts a few things into perspective.

Chillin' with Dylan— Bellmont, AC...a rivalry game

I wasn’t even thought of in 1978. In fact, all my future mother and father were concerned with was how they would fit in the next year when they started high school.
Apparently, however, that marked the last time that Bellmont and Adams Central played football against each other.
