I already know what some readers will think when I write this but it needs to be said anyway...
Adams Central’s run in softball and baseball was phenomenal. Period.
Say what you want, non-AC fans. Tell me I’m a traitor for liking the Jets more than Bellmont or South Adams. Remind me that I graduated from there and clearly still have too much invested at that school to properly cover all three schools equally.

The recent passing of Carl Bennett at the age of 97 may well have taken the last living link to Zollner Piston basketball in Fort Wayne.
The Pistons, of course, played for years in Fort Wayne under the stewardship of industrialist Fred Zollner and were the key reason the Memorial Coliseum was constructed. Zollner played a major role in the merger that birthed the National Basketball Association (NBA); in fact, the deal was hammered out in his home.

Donald Westlake was one of the greatest crime authors to ever put word to paper. His books have been turned into numerous films, but most have been based on the character he created under the pseudonym Richard Stark. That character's name is Parker and such films as PAYBACK and POINT BLANK have been about him but never used his name. That changes with the release of PARKER.

Summer is usually hot. I say "usually" because Indiana doesn't seem to understand seasons and likes throwing whatever weather it wants at us. But I digress. Summer is usually hot.

I don’t want to ruin a great thing by making too many observations and predictions, but it can’t be overstated just how amazing Adams Central’s run has been in the post-season.
Without going into great detail, I will give a few facts to stew over heading into this weekend.

Bellmont and Adams Central are once again extending their school year in the spring time thanks to some talented individuals.
Trying to figure out which even to attend myself is one of my favorite problems to have as a sports editor.
The Squaws are onto something as they head into the weekend’s festivities with high hopes of making noise at the state level. Hankenson is seeded number one in the high jump and could (should) be a state champion in that event.

Without any games going Friday night I decided to bring out a rare Friday column.
That’s the good news (or bad depending on who’s reading this).

Much-needed reforms to Indiana’s criminal code were among the slew of bills approved during this year’s session of the state General Assembly, but in the long view the tinkering finally approved by lawmakers fell well short of meaningful and cost-effective legislation and could even prove to have a detrimental effect on local and state coffers — and the lives of many Hoosiers.
