I’m a big fan of movies. Not new movies; I haven’t been to a theater in a decade — in part because I’m too cheap to shell out $10 for what will probably be a lousy flick anyway.
But give me an old movie any day, any time, and I’ll be a happy camper. I’ll gladly watch Casablanca or Cool Hand Luke for the umpteenth time. Same goes for anything Bogey and Bacall (To Have and Have Not and Key Largo are particular favorites). Or almost anything Alfred Hitchcock ever directed.

Technology is moving swiftly throughout the nation and world, and emergency services units in Decatur and Adams County aren't being left behind.
Decatur City Council recently approved the expenditure of a little over $16,000 — money already budgeted becoming available through merging dispatch systems — to link the city with the Sungard Management Sysem installed by the sheriff's department at its communications center in the county jail.

If you like to read, especially modern mystery novels, then you've heard the name Janet Evanovitch. Evanovitch has made tons of money by writing the best-selling series of novels based on her character Stephanie Plum, a young New Jersey girl (completely unlike those seen on JERSEY SHORE) who, while seeking employment, becomes a bounty hunter. Now Plum has made her way to the big screen (and small screens with DVD) and done so in style.

    The people have spoken.
And we’re not necessarily talking about Hoosier Republicans here, even the 61 percent of them who — for reasons difficult to fathom — voted for Richard Mourdock in Tuesday’s U.S. Senate race against Dick Lugar.

There will be 383 teams fighting for four state titles later this month as the IHSAA has announced the sectional pairings for the 46th annual state baseball tournament.
The Braves, Jets and Stars all have posted stellar records thus far this season and look to make some noise in the tourney.

Activist judges.
It’s a phrase most often churned out by Republicans, tea party sympathizers or right wing extremists (if that combination seems redundant, it’s because most often it is) following court decisions which don’t match their particular ideals.

A new Indiana law taking effect on July 1 is designed to address nepotism in government.
Starting with the 2014 elections, someone cannot be elected to a council or board if he/she is an employee of that agency. Two members of Decatur City Council, Charlie Cook and Bill Crone, will not be affected as both are Adams County employees, Cook with the sheriff's department (resource officer at Adams Central) and Crone with the prosector's office.

It seems that we've never had a female version of the James Bond character. Certainly, Bond has had his share of femme fatales but never has one taken the lead role in a film. The closest we've had in the past was Cynthia Rothrock, who starred in a series of martial arts films, but those were always B-movie quality. That all changes with HAYWIRE.

The idea to close down the dispatch center at the Decatur police station and allow all its calls to go through the communications center at the county jail makes so much sense you have to wonder why it wasn't thought of before.
In fact, it was. Long ago, actually. And in later years, too.

I held off on the usual Thursday musings from my “Chillin” column because I knew that I would be taking in baseball games at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. Even though I’m an avid Tin Caps fan, they were not playing on Thursday night.
The ACAC rented out the field for what has become one of the greatest events for high school baseball players in the conference each year. Each of the eight teams in the Allen County Athletic Conference met up in the last two days at Parkview Field to clash with each other.
