Now we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty. Fewer than 50 days remain until the November general election.
And while the presidential race is grabbing most of the headlines, let’s focus today on a race of near equal importance to Hoosiers. Indiana voters this year will select a new governor — choosing from Republican Mike Pence, Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham.

This latest incident of picking on the Amish brings back some sad and tragic memories of what can happen.
It was in 1979 that Adams County teenagers got their kicks by riding around the county and throwing things at Amish folks in their buggies, things like rocks and pieces of tile. They were harassing, the teens said, a bunch of "clapes," a word many of us had never before heard. It apparently comes from putting clay with ape, a derogatory term for a farmer.

I find it difficult to believe that there are so many quality television shows on the air these days. For so long it felt like there was nothing to watch. Now I find myself torn between shows appearing on opposing channels at the same time or find the DVR overloaded with shows I've missed. This is one of the reasons that shows being released on DVD at somewhat affordable prices are doing so well right now. And one show that continues to remain a quality series is CRIMINAL MINDS.

Chillin' with Dylan- Girls golf regionals

Bellmont has their work cut out for them if they want to extend their golf season for another week.
The Squaws shot well Saturday, enough to get them out of the Norwell-hosted sectionals along with the home team and Homestead as all three squads meet up with the winners of six sectionals to determine who goes to state the following weekend.

Debates will define  race for governor (okay, no they won’t)

Chillin' with Dylan- Notre Dame

September 13, 2012

Big news shook the college world yesterday, but did anyone see it coming?

Notre Dame in the ACC?

There are so many angles to take on this analysis I can only imagine how long it took the university to decide this direction.

When fans think of Notre Dame, most would instinctively flock to the historic football program. And why not? Since 1887, the tradition of Irish football has been a staple of the college game and continues to impress (or frustrate) fans to this day.

The NFL is finally here and I’m stoked.
The high school game always gets my blood pumping but between fantasy football to scream and holler about, chicken wings and barbeque chips, and a room full of my best buddies, there’s nothing better.

It was one week ago today — 4 a.m., to be exact — when the phone rang. On the other end of the line was our 15-year-old grandson.
    “Darren’s here,” he said.
My reply went something like this: Huh ... what ... who is this ... what are you talking about ... what time is it?

Saturday may be marked in red on the calendar in the Mike Miller household and at his place of business. As in, you know, red-letter day.
It will be one year Saturday since his place of business, Villa Lanes, came back from the proverbial dead. Dead as in closed for three years, which can be an eternity for a business. Dead as in out of sight, out of mind with way too many Decatur and area residents. Dead as in being mismanaged and sent in cement shoes to the bottom of the ocean of shipwrecked bowling centers.

Yes, it's true, the best drama on TV these days features zombies. The second season of THE WALKING DEAD arrives this week on DVD and this is one series that not only keeps getting better but stays original and draws viewers in at a steady, even pace.
