Let the Madness begin!!

By DYLAN MALONE
The stage is set and the field is down to 64 once again! If you’re not glued to your television or constantly checking your smartphone for score updates then you’re a better citizen of the world than I am.

"It's more important to win the outdoor state (title), but we'll take a state championship any way we can have it," stated Bellmont junior Bailee Hankenson after the Squaws won 18 medals, taking the small school indoor state track title in Saturday's Hoosier State Relays held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
"I think it's a big deal," said Hankenson. "I knew we were rated in the top three, but I didn't realize we could actually win it."

Beat the Pros March Madness!!!

By DYLAN MALONE
    What a week it’s been!
Today I have the amazing honor of watching the first round of the Big Ten tournament at the United Center in Chicago as some tickets became available last minute to me. As a matter of fact, if you’re reading this hot off the presses, I’ll already be courtside watching Purdue versus Nebraska.

Now and again at a Decatur City Council meeting as discussion was winding down, longtime council member Frank Whitacre — who died Sunday at the age of 74 — would offer a "Well, now, hold on a minute," and then launch into untold facts and figures.

The other day I found myself explaining to my niece what a formula movie was. For those who don't know it's a movie that follows a well-used formulaic plot that we've seen over and over again with a twist on it to make it new.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years since James Bond first hit the big screen and yet this past year had celebrations galore about that fact. First was the release of the blu-ray box set containing all Bond films with extras, excluding SKYFALL. Numerous shows were done about the fact.
Finally a tribute was paid to Bond this past Oscar night. But the big news concerning Bond this year was a new film, SKYFALL that has just hit DVD shelves.

Chicago has a pretty good hockey team. I don’t follow hockey as religiously as I do other sports but the streak that the Blackhawks are on it pretty amazing. They won their 11th straight game last night and scored points for the 24th consecutive game extending the record. That’s pretty stellar by hockey standards.
Anyways, had to get that out of the way.

Round one sectional fallout

By DYLAN MALONE
I had it penciled in for Friday that three sectional semi-final basketball games would have to be covered.
As South Adams and Bellmont figured out on Tuesday, however, sometimes it just doesn’t pan out.

Starfires' state points no accident

We were reminded exactly how tough it is to score at the IHSAA State Wrestling finals last Friday when four of the six county competitors were defeated in the opening round. The fact that South Adams adanced its two entries is a testimony to how far Eric Myers has brought that program.
Congratulations go to Sawyer Miller for gaining a second top-four place in the first two years of his prep career with his third at 113 pounds, and to Lane Moser for his placement at 120 pounds.
