Sectional basketball is here at last. Firstly though, Bellmont deserves all the props in the world for continually year-in and year-out dominating the wrestling world in Indiana. Even after 25+ years of Bellmont heroics, the big schools like Perry Meridian still look over their shoulders and worry about when they’ll have to face the scrappy Braves.

Mike Snyder may have been a last-minute filer as a candidate for Indiana’s 79th House district seat, but the decision to make his first foray into the world of elected politics was not a rush to judgement. In fact, it was a decision that was some 25 years in the making.
Snyder, a Democrat, filed the necessary paperwork with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office on Feb. 9 to launch his candidacy for the House seat currently held by Berne Republican Matt Lehman.

It's hard to believe that it's actually been 25 years since PHANTOM OF THE OPERA the musical was first performed. It remains fresh for the thousands who see it performed to this day. I was fortunate enough to see it performed live in both Chicago and Cleveland and it still gives me chills to think of the opening.

Ten minutes after Bellmont was eliminated from the 17th and last (for now) IHSAA Team State Wrestling Finals Saturday, there they were, standing toe to toe, the IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox and Bellmont wrestlng coach Brent Faurote. They weren't exchanging pleasantries.

On this President’s Day week, I wondered about how the former leaders of our nation have impacted the sports world and whether there were any interesting sports notables tied in with them. What I found was simply patriotic.

In his days on the basketball court, Norb Witte was mostly unstoppable. Far removed from those days, cancer finally stopped him, but not before he stood toe to toe with it and gave it his best shots.
Norb was a big guy and his refusal to bow to cancer made distinctly clear that he had a big heart as well. It was in 2001 when, due to the disease, Norb had his voice box removed.
