With so many remakes and sequels being made these days it's nice to have some being made that are actually well done. More often than not these types of films are rushed into production and rarely come close to being as original or fun as the first films. Such is not the case with MEN IN BLACK 3.

Getting excited about IU playing Rutgers in hoops? Bet they're jumping up and down out in Iowa in expectation of hosting Maryland in football in a few years. And surely the folks in Columbus are already painting their faces and putting their bucknuts around their necks in anticipation of Rutgers' football team coming to town down the road.

It's been years since the theme of bootleggers was the subject matter in movies. Back in the '70s there was a rush of movies about this subject, ranging from the low-budget MOONRUNNERS (the movie later turned into the hit TV series THE DUKES OF HAZARD) to the even lower budgeted MOONSHINERS. Even Burt Reynolds took on the subject in WHITE LIGHTNING. But then it kind of disappeared. That all changed when reality TV took a shine (pun intended) to the topic and the film LAWLESS is a result of that renewed interest.

Chillin' with Dylan-MLB Hall of Fame

December 6, 2012

Baseball inducted Barry Larkin into the Hall of Fame in January. He was the only one.
The MLB experienced the first wave of players who had either admitted to or were strongly accused of using steroids in their careers. A panel of baseball writers and professionals were asked to vote for up to 10 players on the ballot of 27 pros. Any player who received at least 75% of the vote earned a spot in Cooperstown.

Chillin' with Dylan—The Female Athlete—A Reiteration

November 29, 2012

    Ok, here goes.
I’ve never had to retrace my steps in this column before but after reading some of the comments made about the female athlete a few weeks ago, I felt the need to clear the air.
First and foremost, I am not beyond being wrong from time to time. When given the chance, I can say confidently that I can come through with an explanation and/or an apology. In this case I was not given the opportunity for either…so I’ll try now.

Questions, questions; everyone has questions. Like, where does all that stuff go? Or, where did all that stuff come from?
Last week's demolishing of a downtown building stirred considerable interest in these parts. And why not? When was the last time such a large building was demolished in Decatur?
In Vegas, they do it all the time. But not here.

If you saw THE EXPENDABLES then you have a clue as to what to expect from any sequel. Lots of explosions, plenty of gunplay and hand-to-hand combat from a group of mercenaries who also tend to have a moral backbone. The first film delivered tons of action to the point that I consider it one of the best action films ever made. It was popular enough that a sequel had to follow. So how does THE EXPENDABLES 2 stack up?

Chillin with Dylan—Thanksgiving means b-ball

November 23, 2012

There’s not a lot of things that beat Thanksgiving Day. If you’re most moms or wives, you get to see the fruit of your work on the smiling faces of your family members who give thanks (or should) to you and for your hard labor all day.
If you’re my wife, Thanksgiving Day marks the first day she officially gets to celebrate the Christmas holiday and I no longer have an excuse to hold her back from her holiday spirit.

Hop's Heresy-Out of State, out of mind

November 16, 2012

Think about it. You’re going to put on an Indiana “state” wrestling tournament, and 24 teams in three classes will get invited. I wouldn’t  have to know anything about the rosters -  which state placers are coming back, how many starters return, etc. ‑ to come up with a pretty fine tourney.
And, about the second or third team on my mind, after Evansville Mater Dei and Perry Meridian, would be Bellmont, right!

The Bellmont Squaws won the cross country invitational they hosted Wednesday...
Concordia Lutheran backed up their number one ranking in class 3A on Tuesday...
Tonight's volleyball contest at the Teepee invites the Concordia Cadets,...
