Round one sectional fallout

By DYLAN MALONE
I had it penciled in for Friday that three sectional semi-final basketball games would have to be covered.
As South Adams and Bellmont figured out on Tuesday, however, sometimes it just doesn’t pan out.

Starfires' state points no accident

We were reminded exactly how tough it is to score at the IHSAA State Wrestling finals last Friday when four of the six county competitors were defeated in the opening round. The fact that South Adams adanced its two entries is a testimony to how far Eric Myers has brought that program.
Congratulations go to Sawyer Miller for gaining a second top-four place in the first two years of his prep career with his third at 113 pounds, and to Lane Moser for his placement at 120 pounds.

Chillin' with Dylan—The Greatest of All-Time

I was doing just fine when LeBron James tweeted that Jordan was the greatest of all time. I even understood when ESPN felt compelled to compare his Airness with LeBron and Kobe Bryant.
It was when LeBron said that championship rings did not necessarily make a player the greatest of all-time. He illustrated that Bill Russell was not the greatest of all-time and he had the most rings (11 championships in 13 years, all with the Celtics).
I have a real problem with that line of thinking.

School officials in Terre Haute are moving ahead with plans to put police officers with arrest powers in 12 schools at a cost of $353,000, with the Vigo County School Corp. to pay half of that amount.
How great a desire there is for something of that nature in Decatur is unknown, but one thing is sure, it would cost a bundle. A much-bigger problem is manpower (or womanpower).

As a fan of James Patterson’s novels involving Alex Cross I was anxious to see how the new version held up. Both pervious films starring Morgan Freeman were good but his depiction of Cross was far from what the books involved, most noticeably his age. When I heard Tyler Perry was chosen for the role my only hope was that he wouldn’t do it in drag. So does the new version hold up? Quite well actually.

Suggestions about what to do with that huge, now-ugly wall left facing us from the now-empty lot at Second and Monroe streets have mainly ranged from a green space to a parking lot.
But how about this one? Advertising! Like A.J. Kalver did with the former drive-in screen southeast of town. One need only look just across the street to the north to see how something nice looking can be placed on the side of a building.

Webcasting Bellmont sports

Happy V-day everyone. Go out and buy your gal some flowers and chocolate. She deserves it.
Speaking of deserving it, I hope we bring home a champion this Saturday down in Indy. Nothing thrills me more than when the little guy triumphs and that’s all I can think of when I see Bellmont, AC, and SA go head-to-head with the big shots like Perry Meridian.

No three-pointers in Friday wrestling

What if three-point shots just counted for two points, in the first quarter only? After all, some kids aren’t really warmed up, right? And the perimeter defense, well, it’s not on track yet!
In effect, that’s what has happened to the new “old” scoring at the IHSAA State Wrestling finals.

Playoffs and college hoops

By DYLAN MALONE
Post-seasons are in full tilt for most winter sports and Adams County has been thriving once again as wrestling enters its semi-state phase, girls swimming enters the state realm, and girls basketball’s sectional semis are tomorrow.
I won’t go into great detail on the wrestling because I feel like Jim touches on that subject a lot better than I do. I will say that the guys from all three schools never cease to amaze me with their success.
