It's hard to believe that there is a young generation out there that didn't experience 9/11 first-hand. For those of us who lived through it, it doesn't seem all that long ago. So this generation can't quite grasp the importance of Osama Bin Laden's death.

The Madness continues...

By DYLAN MALONE
What is it about March Madness that has me cheering against my favorite teams? Those who filled out a bracket, whether for the DDD contest or otherwise, know what I’m talking about.
It’s the same as fantasy football or basketball. We get so caught up in winning the side game that what actually happens affects us during the games.

If you are a college student and your school's basketball team is in the NCAA or any other post-season tournament, you might as well root 'em on. You're likely helping pay the team's way ... as well as the scholarships provided the players.

    Local control.
Elected officials in counties, cities, townships and schools ask for it constantly. Actually, they mostly whine for it, all the while bemoaning Big Brother in Indianapolis — which they claim is constantly imposing the collective will of state lawmakers to the detriment of small units of local government statewide.
And for the most part, that’s not an entirely inaccurate assessment.

In recognition of National Inhalants and Poison Prevention Week, March 17–23, the Substance Abuse Awareness Council is alerting the public about the dangers of inhalants and ways to prevent childhood poisoning.
Youth in our community, even those in middle school, are using inhalants to get high. They are so dangerous that “sudden sniffing death” can result after a single session of inhalant use.

Steve Barker wasn't really Steve Barker. The longtime Decatur wrecker service operator would give you this gruff, hard, profane exterior. If you met him for the first time, you'd probably walk away muttering something about a crabby jerk.
But underneath all that hard exterior was a remarkably softer human being. A guy truly loved by many, someone being sorely missed since his passing last week.

Let the Madness begin!!

The stage is set and the field is down to 64 once again! If you’re not glued to your television or constantly checking your smartphone for score updates then you’re a better citizen of the world than I am.

Hop's Heresy—A state title...any way you slice it!!

March 20, 2013

By JIM HOPKINS
"It's more important to win the outdoor state (title), but we'll take a state championship any way we can have it," stated Bellmont junior Bailee Hankenson after the Squaws won 18 medals, taking the small school indoor state track title in Saturday's Hoosier State Relays held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
"I think it's a big deal," said Hankenson. "I knew we were rated in the top three, but I didn't realize we could actually win it."

Beat the Pros March Madness!!!

By DYLAN MALONE
    What a week it’s been!
Today I have the amazing honor of watching the first round of the Big Ten tournament at the United Center in Chicago as some tickets became available last minute to me. As a matter of fact, if you’re reading this hot off the presses, I’ll already be courtside watching Purdue versus Nebraska.

Tonight the Bellmont Braves host county-rival Adams Central on the hardwood in a post-Christmas...
Three perfect brackets made up the top three this week for Pigskin Picks week 16....
