Alone With J — Tout it, and they will come?

May 29, 2014

By J SWYGART
On Sunday, hundreds of Adams County seniors will receive their sheepskins, culminating their long and challenging high school careers. They will head off into the world of adult-dom, pursuing gainful employment or taking a few months off before hitting the books this fall at the institution of higher learning of their choice.

Chillin' with Dylan—Squaws’ track and spring sports

May 13, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
I was always taught in writing opinion pieces that if it’s been said before, don’t bother writing it again, but Bellmont’s track team is getting a little ridiculous.
Forgive me for going on about the Squaws in particular for they just seem destined for greatness in the state tournament fast approaching.

Chillin' with Dylan— The NBA/Sterling discussion

April 30, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
Let me break my month-long hiatus from writing to spill my thoughts on the recent NBA controversy.  Yes, I know. “Another NBA column?! Seriously?”
This one is worth the conversation, though.
It’s a funny world we find ourselves in with social media and opinions looming large. Donald Sterling found that out the hard way when he opened his mouth about his opinion on the black community.

Chillin' with Dylan— Some bracket-ology...sort of

Some bracket-ology...sort of

By DYLAN MALONE
Well, I’m out. I know out of the 190 or so brackets I’ve been grading for this March Madness tourney that I’m not alone but this weekend really did a number on me.

Chillin' with Dylan—It’s March Madness time!

March 13, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
It’s finally here and I’m so excited once again to be hosting the annual DDD Bracket Challenge!
It’s the one time of year where people actually call off work on a non-holiday just to stay up late to watch the NCAA tournament. What are they hoping to see? Everything.
Buzzer-beaters, angry coaches, kids diving on the floor for loose balls, pride-wrenching upsets, and the utter glory of producing the most accurate bracket in your friend’s pay-pool at work.

Wrestling season look back

March 3, 2014

While it would have been great for some of the five Adams County state wrestlers to come away with placements last weekend at the IHSAA State Wrestling finals, that disappointment doesn’t take away from very successful seasons from both Bellmont and Adams Central had...and South Adams for that matter.
As it turns out, there are no really good draws at state, Bringing in the top 16 wrestlers from around the state in each class ... well, it guarantees some mean competition.

Chillin' with Dylan — Boys basketball preview

February 28, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
With wrestling, swimming and girls basketball in the books for the county, all eyes are on the boys basketball sectionals this Tuesday night.
I’m marking this year down as the rare occasion that it is (almost as rare as a Friday column...how exciting!).

Chillin' with Dylan - My take on the All-Star Game

February 20, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
Another All-Star Weekend in the books for the NBA and even though the casual sports fan may not know much about the league, there was definitely a huge number of them watching the city of New Orleans putting on a show.

Chillin' with Dylan- Much ado about the weather

January 30, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
Let me get the obvious out of the way...
When will this Indiana weather become predictable enough to bear?
Last year was the epitome of extremes as the baseball/softball programs had to wait for the snow on the ground to melt before getting on the field late March, then we sat through an April/May drought with temps in the high 80s.
    That’s the norm around here.
